Elyria Mandarin Chinese 3 Tutoring FAQ
By the time you reach your third year of Mandarin Chinese classes, you have likely amassed a great deal of expertise in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding Mandarin Chinese. However, Mandarin Chinese 3 presents students with increasingly difficult challenges. The class asks students to master complex grammatical constructions and a variety of new vocabulary in Pinyin Romanization, simplified Chinese characters, and traditional Chinese characters. It also asks them to integrate this new knowledge seamlessly into their self-expression in Mandarin Chinese, both in written and spoken forms. If you have misunderstood any of the concepts covered in previous Mandarin Chinese courses, such confusion can cause you problems in Mandarin Chinese 3. New material requires you to have a solid grasp on the foundational topics. If you are encountering difficulties in keeping up with your Mandarin Chinese 3 course, a private tutor can help you gain the skills and knowledge you need to excel.
Varsity Tutors can help you connect with a tutor who will provide you with a superb level of customization. The educational directors at Varsity Tutors consider your previous experience with Mandarin Chinese classes, your concerns about the subject material, and even the ways in which you best learn when helping you connect with a tutor who has the experience, knowledge, and skillset to be effective in assisting you. Your tutor can then design a custom lesson plan focused on helping you review the concepts with which you struggle, while also avoiding spending time on content you already understand well. Whether you need to revisit foundational grammatical concepts, review how to write certain vocabulary terms in traditional Chinese characters, or focus on some other aspect of your coursework, your tutor can help you do so. If your conversational skills could use some work, your tutor can act as a great speaking partner, able to provide feedback on the spot regarding your word choice, pronunciation, and grammar. They can give real-time advice on how to improve your speaking skills. One of the benefits of working with a private tutor one-on-one is that you have the opportunity to ask a lot of questions. This ensures that you truly comprehend the concepts you're working on before moving ahead to more complex elements of the language. The material introduced in Mandarin Chinese 3 is challenging in and of itself, but as a step in a sequence of Mandarin Chinese courses that require you to rely on previous knowledge, the course can become unnecessarily difficult if your knowledge of previously introduced concepts is at all shaky.
Part of studying Mandarin Chinese at an advanced level is developing an understanding of the role the language plays in local communities and the global system. As a student you're no longer just studying the mechanics of the language itself, but also the culture associated with the language, and the various ways that the language can be used to connect with people and institutions around the world. Mandarin Chinese 3 tutors are well versed in the relationship between the language, people, and the global community, and they can share with you their insights into the matter. Working with someone who has a deep understanding of the language and its uses will ensure that you have a more holistic, well-rounded understanding of Mandarin Chinese as your progress through your coursework.

Recent Elyria Mandarin Chinese 3 Tutoring Session Notes
The student and I had a great first session. We went over his homework and prepared for next week's chapter from his textbook. We continued work on Chinese definitions, translations, and general conversation.
Made good progress with the vocabulary. The student was able to translate English to Chinese quickly and with some practice was able to repeat Chinese characters for most if not all vocabulary. Huge improvement in grammar. Will start new reading comprehension next time
This is this first session we had after the student came back from her China trip. We talked about what she did in China in Mandarin. The student's Mandarin has shown huge improvement after the trip. We had a good time talking in Mandarin.
In today's class, we talked about four seasons, the noun phrases, colors, daily routines, and self-introductions. The student also told a story according to the picture book. His performance is quite impressive. We plan to do more story-telling activity next time.
The student completed one page of his workbook and prepared for his dictation test. He also practiced reading a passage containing his vocab words out loud and then copied one sentence from that passage. He got a lot of Chinese completed. He was able to write the characters neatly after tracing them.
She did not do her homework for the weekend, so we worked on writing the new characters from her book. We wend over the instructions for her unit review and we practiced forming questions and vocabulary with her Go Fish game.
