What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I will try my best to know about the students, including his/her hobbies, struggling in the learning and the habit of learning. Through talking with the student, I will adjust my effort.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Try to make the learning interesting.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Explain the skill or concept in an easy way and show more examples for them.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Give students a purpose for reading; Focus students' attention on what they are to learn; Help students to think actively as they read; Encourage students to monitor their comprehension; Help students to review content and relate what they have learned to what they already know.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
To stimulate students' interest in their subject.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Figure out what is the major obstacle in their subject, then give a shortcut or my experience in the subject.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
In order for students to understand material, it must be taught, then review it, repeat it and offer more examples. Sometimes you need sub-concepts to make the material easier.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Offer praise and acknowledge any accomplishment in that subject.

Discuss with them in detail.

It depends on the subject and student.
What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that a teacher is someone who has specialized knowledge and expertise in certain research areas, and is passionate about teaching and mentoring others in those fields. I also firmly believe that learning is a continuous life-long process, and one of the best ways to learn is through teaching and sharing with others.
