I spent three years at the University of Illinois studying physics. When my Classical E and M professor walked in to class one day and asked who was willing to go twice a week to help him with an experiment at Fermilab and I was the only student who hadn't raised a hand, or two, I realized I was on the wrong track. What I loved about physics was the math. I moved to Nebraska to be closer to family and finished a B.S. in Math, and then spent 5 years in graduate school. I picked up an M.S. in Applied Math, taking many courses in ordinary and partial differential equations, along the way, but left ABD ( all but done) to pursue a business interest. After seven years in business I sold out my interest and started teaching math, courses ranging from arithmetic up through Calc III, for a community college, which I did for 15 years. I am now planning to pursue a masters in Actuarial Science.I am confident both in my abilities as a mathematician and as a communicator and more importantly in every students ability to learn more math.

I am a senior at Boston University. I will be receiving a B.S. in English Education with a minor in Arts Leadership. I also am a member of the Kilachand Honors College. I am expected to receive my teaching licensure for the state of Massachusetts within the next few months. In addition to being a Special Education Teaching Assistant and Writing Tutor, I am also the Artistic Director for the Off-Beat Players - a nonprofit theater company for young adults with disabilities. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and Writing/Reading. I am incredibly passionate about working with students to achieve their learning goals, and it is always heartwarming to see their hard work contribute towards their own success. I am a firm advocate for letting students guide their own learning - their own experiences, interests, and skills should drive their educational experience. In my spare time, I enjoy performing improv comedy, playing basketball, and playing "Catan".

The most difficult thing I've had to do in my life would have to be the day I decided to move across the world, away from my parents and the home I had known for 16 years. Growing up in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is an experience I wouldn't change for the world. I was raised not only to be culturally aware of diversity, but to respect it as well. I went to an international school, which had a significant impact in moulding my ideas and beliefs; I had many opportunities to travel, to gain different perspectives of how people lived. After the transition that led me to Denver, Colorado I soon graduated and had to make a new transition into University life. I am currently a sophomore in biomedical engineering with aspirations to someday become a surgeon.

Conversational French Tutor • +32 Subjects

I am a native of Port au Prince, Haiti, where I completed all my classical schooling (from grammar school to high school) and some college in French. I immigrated to the U.S. in 2006 to further my studies. When I am not at work or some other engagements, you will find me playing with my two-year old daughter and my six-month old son, or going on a walk with my wife (and the children), or hanging out with friends. When I am alone, you will find my eyes riveted on a TV or computer screen or, better yet, a book. Although I am no philosopher by any stretch of the imagination, I enjoy deep thinking, especially on philosophical matters. That constitutes most of my quiet moments in life.Languages and people are my passion. I speak four living languages and I am proficient in two dead languages. Few sights bring me more joy than seeing a person learn and grow. I hold a MA in Biblical Exegesis (Ancient Greek and Hebrew Interpretation) from Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL and a BA is Pastoral Ministry from Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, IL.I believe every person can learn any language he or she desires. Therefore, I tutor with one conviction--what stands between a student and his or her target language is a tutor who listens and taps into the student's dominant learning style. Because (in my view) motivation and passion drive learning, rather than focusing on weaknesses, I emphasize the student's strengths. I have seen students who were struggling in learning French obtain an A at the end of the same semester. I have also helped others gain a passion for the language while showing slow but steady improvement in learning it.No matter where you stand in your learning journey, it is my pleasure and honor to serve as your guide and ensure that you reach your goal.

Hello everyone! I am a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am a transfer student into the university which means I have attained my Associates in Science Degree at another college, Central Piedmont Community College. I am currently working towards my Bachelors in Psychology and possibly a minor in Neuroscience. I don't have much official tutoring experience however I do "tutor" peers in subjects that I tend to do better in to help them understand certain concepts. With that said, I have tutored young children as old as 3 and as old as 25. My favorite subjects to tutor? I definitely like to tutor in math because once I understand the topic it feels wonderful to be able to teach it to someone else and have them understand it as well. I also like to tutor in English because not many people like to write but once you have your main ideas organized on paper and someone to guide you along the way suddenly writing is easier and more interesting. My tutoring philosophy: success is not easy nor an accident hard-work, dedication and a will to learn, succeed, and fail is what creates a successful individual. Learning can be fun if you're willing to take the interest in what you are learning. I did not sign up to drill you on memorizing formulas and the top 50 common prepositions. I am here to better you as student and as a growing individual in every aspect. Outside of academia, I have an unhealthy love for shopping, cheerleading, good food, and quality time with friends.

I first started studying psychology while attending the University of Groningen in The Netherlands and then finished my degree at the University of Oklahoma in the United States. I love studying the mechanisms behind how humans think and behave and how psychology is fundamentally linked to both the sciences and humanities. Besides psychology, I also focused on classes in professional writing, and I have been editing and tutoring writing since I was studying for my International Baccalaureate degree in high school. I currently live in the UK where I'm doing my Masters in International Education and Development.I tutor Writing and English at all academic levels, as well as Psychology and Social Studies. My favorite topics to tutor are psychology and writing because they are both multidisciplinary subjects and therefore flexible and adaptable to almost any situation. My teaching philosophy is built on what I learned studying psychology: everyone is different and thus, everyone learns differently and has different needs and goals when it comes to education. I try to be a tutor who helps create a unique learning environment to suit the necessities of each individual student. Tutoring sessions are a two-way conversation, and as a tutor, I try to facilitate the concerns of my student and give them the resources and guidance they require to meet their goals.I've been a world traveler since birth and when Im not tutoring, I spend my time writing and editing. My hobbies are reading, painting, swimming and searching for my next adventure. I love learning about new things and meeting new people, as well as getting to share my own stories.
