I spent three years at the University of Illinois studying physics. When my Classical E and M professor walked in to class one day and asked who was willing to go twice a week to help him with an experiment at Fermilab and I was the only student who hadn't raised a hand, or two, I realized I was on the wrong track. What I loved about physics was the math. I moved to Nebraska to be closer to family and finished a B.S. in Math, and then spent 5 years in graduate school. I picked up an M.S. in Applied Math, taking many courses in ordinary and partial differential equations, along the way, but left ABD ( all but done) to pursue a business interest. After seven years in business I sold out my interest and started teaching math, courses ranging from arithmetic up through Calc III, for a community college, which I did for 15 years. I am now planning to pursue a masters in Actuarial Science.I am confident both in my abilities as a mathematician and as a communicator and more importantly in every students ability to learn more math.

I am a senior at Boston University. I will be receiving a B.S. in English Education with a minor in Arts Leadership. I also am a member of the Kilachand Honors College. I am expected to receive my teaching licensure for the state of Massachusetts within the next few months. In addition to being a Special Education Teaching Assistant and Writing Tutor, I am also the Artistic Director for the Off-Beat Players - a nonprofit theater company for young adults with disabilities. The most difficult thing I've had to do in my life would have to be the day I decided to move across the world, away from my parents and the home I had known for 16 years. Growing up in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is an experience I wouldn't change for the world. I was raised not only to be culturally aware of diversity, but to respect it as well. I went to an international school, which had a significant impact in moulding my ideas and beliefs; I had many opportunities to travel, to gain different perspectives of how people lived.After the transition that led me to Denver, Colorado I soon graduated and had to make a new transition into University life.
