I earned my PhD in Cellular/Molecular Biology from University of Toledo in 2013, I have been actively performing scientific research for over 10 years, with broad knowledge in biological sciences. I am a rising sophomore at Brown University from Newton, MA majoring in Biochemistry with outside interests in East Asian studies, Slavic studies, and art history. I'm comfortable working with chemistry, biology, most math subjects, and SAT Reading and Math, but am especially confident with tutoring Mandarin Chinese, as a native Chinese speaker with experience teaching a beginning Chinese course in the middle school support program at the Wheeler School in Providence, RI. When I first experienced the joyful moment when a previous student of mine learned how to pronounce a difficult word, it was so wonderful that I forgot how much effort we put in.My previous teaching experience taught me an important lesson. Teaching is not only in the classroom reading a textbook, life itself has already provided us a perfect learning environment. When I was a teaching assistant in high school, teaching Chinese to middle school students from UK was really a stressful work. I remember the first few days, sitting in classroom was so boring that every one was trying to escape. When the teacher decided we all drop the textbooks and went to the playground, students were cheering, we talked and laughed. I realized the words we taught them in the hour we spent on the playground were way more than we taught them in the classroom.The other thing I learn through teaching students was the connection between the student and me was so important that it could change both of us. Having a good connection with the student will not only help me know the student more so I could provide a better teaching method, but it will also change the way how the student deal with other subject.I believe the confidence of sharing my knowledge and the patience in every situation can make me a better tutor and meet every student's need.

I hold mater's and bachelor's degrees in Chinese language. In the past I have taught at China Women's University and Jinzhou Teacher's College. I also worked as a reporter, editor and columnist for a national newspaper in China before moved to the States.Having been living in the U.S. for 23 years, I have taught all levels of Chinese language from Novice to AP. My students were from elementary, middle school and high school. In the past four years, I have taught full time in a high school in Texas.Besides tutor all levels of Chinese, my expertise are College Chinese Compositions; Speech Writing and Delivering; Non-fiction Writing; Media Writing; Business Writing.

I majored in journalism in my undergraduate years and have submitted dozens of film criticisms to Chinese major film jornal "Movieview". I came to US to pursue my filmmaking dream five years ago. I enrolled in Loyola Marymount University and majored in Film Production. During this period, I worked as a teaching assistant for a film study course where I gave lectures about "the Art of Cinema". I also worked as simultaneous translator in my part time for several Chinese-American educational program.Right now, I'm working as a professional commercial editor in a TV company. But I have endless passion in language and teaching. I would like to find some opportunities to sharing my knowledge towards mandarin and Asian & US film industry.I'm a passionate and caring person. I would like to teach students and the same time learn from them. We could share different culture, lifestyle, philosophy. It's a plus if the students love cinema. I would like to shape my tutor lessons towards Chinese film clips showing. I believe this will be a great way to learn a language and also to learn a culture with 2000 years of history.
