Once a student develops a network of knowledge, he or she can easily learn new science knowledge and add the concepts to the existing framework. I grew up on a small farm with dairy cows, hogs and chickens. We were organic farmers and field work was done with horses, tractors, and with old and modern machinery. Every day farming held a new science lesson. Most often the science...

Chino IB Chemistry SL Tutoring FAQ
Chemistry, according to its Google definition, is the branch of science that deals with the identification of the substances of which matter is composed; the investigation of their properties and the ways in which they interact, combine, and change; and the use of these processes to form new substances. Chemistry represents one of the most fundamental scientific pursuits, yet is also one of the most complex and detailed studies taught in standard education. Mastering chemistry concepts require an intimate understanding of phenomena that occur on the molecular and even subatomic levels, which can allow students to interpret the causes of observable events like color change or precipitation.
Beyond this level of education, however, students must be able to quantify the relationships they observe, which often requires the memorization and implementation of complex mathematical formulae. The molecular, observable, and mathematical approaches to chemistry are all equally essential to success in the field, but for many students, the range of topics presented in chemistry coursework can prove problematic. Understanding molecular geometries, for example, is not particularly useful in learning thermochemistry, and neither of these skills will help a student master titration analyses. The vast span of material covered in a high school chemistry course can be daunting, and facing a cumulative exam can be absolutely overwhelming.
If you are preparing to face an International Baccalaureate (IB) Chemistry SL course, you may be feeling the beginnings of this common anxiety. Proper review and study techniques are essential when facing a course that covers a subject as vast as chemistry, but even beginning to organize your notes and identify the areas that you need to review can be challenging. Working with an experienced tutor can give you the edge to structure your review, and the confidence to tackle and grasp all concepts. The Varsity Tutors' educational directors can help you connect with the perfect IB Chemistry SL tutor. This personal, professional, and highly experienced instructor can help you gain high marks on the final IB Chemistry SL exam papers. Instructors have demonstrated elite mastery of chemistry topics, as well as familiarity with IB course structure and examinations. These educators have also proven their strong communication skills and teaching aptitude.
Because your tutor knows exactly what you are going through, he or she can break down complex chemical processes and concepts into understandable pieces that make sense to you. Tutors provide you with a tailored learning environment that specifically suits your unique needs and goals. You can collaborate with your tutor to develop a targeted curriculum, designed to address the chemistry concepts that give you the most difficulty. Your IB Chemistry SL tutor can then focus on strategies, practice problems, and techniques that directly relate to these problem areas. Unlike classroom review, which can become unfocused and impersonal, the one-on-one nature of private IB Chemistry SL tutoring allows you to work through concepts at your own pace and receive immediate feedback, tips, and advice from your instructor.
These private tutors are phenomenal at accommodating you with your schedule and level of experience. Whether you prefer face-to-face online or in-person instruction, you will never be alone in this process. You can also expect to learn new material in a timely manner. Any previous knowledge obtained will not be discussed, as you have already mastered these concepts. Instead, you will gain a fresh perspective and better understanding. Build the confidence and skill set that you need for success in your current and future chemistry pursuits by working with a professional! Ran through entire course curriculum as test prep. Have lesson on molecule naming, Alkanes, Alkenes, Alcohols, and several other subjects. Reviewed syllabus for expected knowledge going into test and discussed all topics.
For this session, we covered rate laws and kinetics. By the end of the session, the student had a much greater understanding of the subject. This included how to set up an energy diagram and describe physical changes which may increase the speed with which reactants interact. We also covered various readouts to help measure the rates of reactions.
The student has a test tomorrow concerning redox reactions, so we dedicated the session to learning the basics. This included oxidation states for atoms in compounds, oxidation versus reduction, and how to identify the reducing and oxidizing agents. We also looked at how to identify the half reactions in galvanic and electrolytic cells. The session concluded by balancing redox reactions. I made sure that she had a good grip on the material and provided some extra problems for her to solve. I am confident that she will do well on her test tomorrow if she goes slowly on the questions and double checks her work.
We first decided it would be best to meet two days subsequent to this meeting in order to ensure that the student was sufficiently prepared for Exam 4. We also discussed her schedule for the period surrounding the study days and final exam week, and we made tentative plans to meet prior to the Final Exam. We first perused the study guide for Exam 4 and pulled up some of the lecture slides to discuss her specific questions. She had made good progress over the previous week by going back to the lecture videos and watching each while outlining additional notes and questions. We discussed concepts related to the TFIID transcription factors, the CTD of RNA polymerase II, and the proteins that make up the spliceosome. We ended our session by looking at the first several questions on the study guide, involving transcriptional activator proteins, including the HAT complex, and cooperative binding of proteins along the genome.
Assisted student in research project. No grades or scores were seen. Student was struggling with researching information, but I provided assistance. Student is doing a good job balancing work and academics.
