Session Summaries by Geometry Tutors

Geometry Tutoring review by David in Weber State University, UT
Concepts covered today were the perimeter and area formulas for rectangles, triangles, and circles and unpacking the variables while properly reading the statements. The student is going back to school after working in the field for an extensive amount of time. We are working on what she does not know. This means we must unlock the side of the brain she typically does not use. She understands that it will take some time, and that I am the tutor for the job. This will be fun.

Geometry Tutoring review by Kira in Weber State University, UT
During this session, we continued working on the unit circle. First we went over the nine problems that the student had to do for homework. I decided to slow down and really break down the unit circle, so today we focused on drawing right triangles based on a given angle in the unit circle. This included a review of 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 triangles. By the end of the session, she was able to correctly draw corresponding right triangles and use them to find the sine, cosine, and tangent of the given angle.

Geometry Tutoring review by Jackson in Weber State University, UT
For this first session, we focused on just going over the basic concepts found in geometry rather than delving into any one in detail, as my goal was to gain an understanding of how the student approaches the concepts at hand. While much of the material is unfamiliar in its specifics, she has a good instinct for the logic puzzle-type questions that comprise much of geometry, so I believe we'll be able to make good, steady progress. I'll be bringing some more in-depth material for next session as we move into the full curriculum for the class.

Geometry Tutoring review by Sarah in Weber State University, UT
Great first session! We worked on and completed his homework for section 2.4 with plenty of time leftover to review sections 2.1 through 2.3 for his quiz. We came up with several examples to clarify each of the topics and worked through all available practice problems in his book.

Geometry Tutoring review by Katlyn in Weber State University, UT
I am so happy to report that the student is showing immediate improvement in class! Today we covered the basic study skills, reviewed work assigned last time, and went over how to find parallelogram side lengths and angle measurements using algebraic methods. He seems to be struggling with more complex, multiple-step problems. However, his attitude is becoming much more relaxed and confident, especially since he has been receiving praise from his teacher over the sudden improvement. I left the student with extra practice over the algebraic methods discussed, as well as gave him problems over a new topic to look ahead on: squares, rectangles, and rhombi. I am very excited about his improvement in work ethic!

Geometry Tutoring review by Margaret in Weber State University, UT
I assigned the student a little "fun" homework. We played a little more of the geometry game, then got right down to business. We reviewed lines, rays, line segments, angles, and planes.
