English Tutoring review by Kathryn in Salt Lake City, UT
The student's homework today focused on the letters A and G, the color blue, and the number 6. We practiced writing the letters and numbers and coloring objects that are blue. We read a story together also for her homework, and she is doing a much better job focusing on the words and not just the picture. Repeating after me after I say the word is also very helpful for her. She now really understands the point of homework and has a sense of what we need to do before I even tell her.

In this session, we began by checking in and spent time reviewing emails/ correspondence the student had to complete for work, ensuring her use of English phrases flowed correctly. We then spent time reading a couple of magazine articles and reviewing recent terms she has heard and did not understand. Finally, we role played situations for her to lead professional conversations in English.

English Tutoring review by Grace in Salt Lake City, UT
Today the student and I covered the d/t/th sounds and practiced enunciating between them. This exercise really got to the heart of one of her main pronunciation problems. We pronounced words that covered all three sounds and we talked about where the tongue should be for each sound. We also went over the meanings of the idioms from the second chapter of her idiom book, and started reading for comprehension on the next section. Additionally, we covered a grammar lesson of conditional verb forms and we proofread her second edit of her last essay together. Ending the lesson with conversation as usual was great, and she is doing better, though we still do need to work on having her not dropping her "s" sounds and the endings of words. She is improving with the "th" sound and will do much better with practice!

English Tutoring review by Julia in Salt Lake City, UT
On Monday, I met with the student's Social Studies teacher to discuss what the student will need help with most during our tutoring sessions. We discussed that his tutoring sessions will be dedicated firstly to his homework and ensuring that he understands what the coursework is asking and requiring, and the second half of it tutoring will be dedicating to strengthening his ESL skills, primarily his confidence in communicating. His teacher asked me to encourage the student to raise his hand at least once a class, in any class, and suggest extra steps in order for him to communicate with his peers and host family. It was noted that the student would like to start a badminton club on campus, which is encouraging. Additionally, my contact information will be given to each of his teachers so that if there are any additional points which he may need assistance with as of his teachers' observations, we can focus on those studies.
