I earned my Bachelor's in English from the University at Albany, after transferring here from Boston University. I am currently completing my dissertation in English. I love teaching, tutoring, advising, and working with students. I have taught at the college level for over a decade and was a substitute teacher before that. Tutoring has become a renewed interest for me now that I spend less time in the classroom and more in my advisement and administrative role. Writing, reading, critical thinking, and all forms of learning are a passion for me.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and I will be receiving my Masters of Arts in Education with emphasis in Elementary Education December 12. Since returning home to St. Louis, I have been student teaching in a first grade classroom. I have experience with tutoring at all ages, from first grade to college-level. I tutor a broad range of subjects, but I am most passionate about Math, English, Literature, and Essay Writing. My favorite subject to tutor would be Math. I was a mentor and tutor for the Rutgers Future Scholars program when I was at Rutgers, which involved working with students in 8th through 12th grade on reading, writing, math, science, and also things like professional development, job searching, college preparation, and standardized test preparation. During my senior year at Rutgers I also worked with another program called Ignite, which was another collaborative program between Camden city schools and Rutgers University. My responsibilities with those students involved after school tutoring and facilitating outside recreational activities. Those students were in 4th through 8th grade.For the past two years during my graduate studies, I was an academic counselor at the University of Tulsa's Center for Student Academic Support, where I worked with at-risk students and students with disabilities on skills such as time management, organization, study habits, and procrastination. I also helped some of these students with standardized test preparation, mostly for the GRE because it is what I'm most familiar with.My experience has covered the gamut of all demographics. I have worked with students as young as 4th grade all the way up to adult, non-traditional students. I have worked with students of all different backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. I take an individual, student-focused approach to tutoring in order to ensure that the student is learning and making progress at their own pace and that they are comfortable with the material.Preferences/specialties as far as subjects go are most certainly reading and writing, college essays, study skills and organization, and statistics. For two years, as a Teach for America corps member, I taught 4th grade in both a General Education and in an ICT Setting. During this time, I completed my Master of Arts in Education from Relay Graduate School of Education, graduating with distinction. As a teacher, I led my students to achieve over a 70% pass rate on the rigorous Common Core ELA Assessment, and over a 90% pass rate on the Common Core Math Assessment. This past school year I was an Assistant Principal in my school, overseeing our K-2 instruction for four months and our third and fourth grade instruction for six months. As an Assistant Principal, I prepared our teachers to implement our curriculum in both math and literacy, as well as developed and coached our teachers to better improve their instruction. As such, I have extensive knowledge of the Common Core Standards in both Math and Literacy for the elementary grades, with particular expertise in the third and fourth grade standards. In addition to my ability to tutor elementary aged students, as an undergraduate student at Columbia I tutored middle school aged students through the Double Discovery Center. I have a strong background in the humanities and in writing, and have had demonstrated success in preparing students for standardized tests. After completing a two year service as a Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa, I earned my teaching credentials in both English and Special Education and taught in Philadelphia for four years. I recently relocated to sunny San Diego with my Master's degree in Education in hand and tutoring experience under my belt.
