I am currently an instructional designer/ graphic designer for a software company in Angleton. I have a Bachelor's degree from the University of Houston in English with a concentration in creative writing and a minor in political science. I have extensive experience tutoring English, particularly writing, and I have worked with all types of students including business students, science students, and English as a second language students. Additionally, I have worked with students all the way from freshmen in high school to adults older than myself. I believe that language is what unites us all and as such, I strive my best to help my students to communicate their ideas in a way that is succinct and clear so that their brilliant ideas can be easily shared with the world. Additionally, I have found that improving a student's confidence is the first step that leads to major strides for students, and as such, I am a constant positive force with my students, providing constant and steady encouragement. I have really enjoyed living and working here in Houston as it has provided me excellent opportunities to play music (I am a lead singer in a band) and participate in some of the great sports activities around the city (I chase Frisbees like a golden retriever).

As a young adult, my mom recognized the gift I have in relating to children. As a teacher, I have always enjoyed my time with my whole class and the one on one times with individuals. I like to use my sense of humor when teaching along with my creativity and problem solving abilities.Outside of tutoring I enjoy arts and crafts, flower gardening, traveling, watching movies that make me laugh out loud and spending time at the beach or in nature somewhere.

By May of 2016, I will have completed my Bachelor of Arts in Media, Culture and the Arts, with minors in Philosophy, Theology, and Business. Throughout high school, I had various teaching experiences as a horseback riding instructor, babysitter, and ESL tutor, and after my first year of college, I spent a summer in Kenya working with children through a local orphanage. I love English, reading, writing, and math most, but I am passionate about seeing students excel in all subjects. Oddly enough, I have always enjoyed standardized tests and love seeing students become comfortable with the form. I believe that learning is almost always a matter of crafting things that we already know together into new formats, and I love coming alongside students to aid in that process. Aside from studying, babysitting, and tutoring, you can find me cooking, reading, running, and humbly trying to grow houseplants.

My teaching career began at Rochester City School district in Western New York as a blended/inclusion 4th grade teacher. I then moved to BOCES, teaching special education students in elementary and middle school.When my own children were school-age, my husband and I made the decision to home school them and in May 2020, I graduated my youngest. Throughout my homeschool years, I continued to tutor other students as well as teach group classes at a local homeschool school where students met once a week for a variety of subject choices. I taught writing, science, logic, and many other fun classes. Combined, I have 24 years of teaching experience. Being part of watching children learn, is what makes this career so rewarding.Recently, I have even enjoyed teaching adults as a health coach. I am passionate about healthy living with nutrition and exercise being at the core of what I do. I was a content writer for a small Chicago start-up and later worked as a game designer for the University's game lab. In what seems like a previous life, I worked as an Assistant Director of Admission at Brown University, my alma mater, reading applications, meeting students, and giving presentations across the country. I have also taught SAT Prep to students both individually and in classroom settings. My favorite color is blue and my favorite ice cream is cookies and cream.

I taught for five years in the New York City DoE.I majored in English at Pace University and then received a M.A. in English at New York University. After discovering that my true passion was teaching and not research, I went back to school and got my Master of Arts in Teaching. Since 2009, I have taught 8th, 9th, 10th, and 12th grades. I have also taught three different courses as an adjunct instructor.My educational philosophy is based on considering the whole student: what he or she likes, his or her strengths and weaknesses, his or her temperament. By considering all of those things I connect with the student and this helps them to do their best work for me.
