To provide a little bit of background about myself: currently, I am a recent graduate of Columbia University's prestigious Teacher's College, equipped with a master's degree as well as a New York State teaching certification in secondary English. Most recently, I had the wonderful experience of working with high school Freshmen teaching a literary analysis unit on Greek mythology and allegorical literature at the Bronx High School of Science. The process of working with a unique combination of gifted and talented students, as well as many ESL learners, really opened my eyes in terms of reinforcing the value of education and the impact it can serve in shaping young people's futures. In the scant few months I was there, I saw students' oral and written academic skills improve dramatically as their comfort with the material increased; more than this, I found myself developing a personal bond with quite a few of them. I legitimately had a lot of fun working with those kids, and I can honestly say that there were some teary faces on both sides when it came time to say goodbye.The reality is, I'm scarcely a decade older than many of the students I taught; as a (relatively) young person myself, I graduated from college but a few short years ago, student loan-free, due to an honors scholarship I received on the basis of academic merit. While I remain forever grateful to the City University system for providing me with a proper education, gratis, as it were, my true debt lies with the hardworking men and women who spent valuable time tutoring me during high school. I can honestly say that without their help, both on the subjects I was struggling in as well as on the SAT, I literally wouldn't be where I am today. I became a teacher, then, to give back to my community, and it's my hope that I can accomplish a little bit more of that as a tutor, by providing the individualized attention that so many students benefit from.As for my hobbies, outside of education I often find myself enjoying keeping up to date on technology trends in the media, reading science fiction, and exercising outdoors. I enjoy the sensation of progress that learning gives me, and it's my hope to share that joy with prospective students.

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in German from the University of Georgia in 2007. The last year of my studies I participated in a student exchange at the Universitt Heidelberg in Germany. After one year there, I continued to live and work in Germany for four years. I taught English as a foreign language and earned a CELTA teaching certificate offered through Cambridge's ESL program.In 2012 I decided to return to the US to pursue a Master of Pubic Health. I received my MPH from the University of South Florida in 2014. My favorite classes in public health were Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

I love helping students crush their MCAT or USMLE exams, especially students, like myself, who once believed they could not be skilled test-takers. I am a sophomore at Carnegie Mellon University, majoring in Business Administration with twin concentrations in Finance and Business Analytics. I am also pursuing an additional major in Statistics and Economics. I really enjoy meeting new people and working with others, which is why I am drawn to the field of tutoring. A lot of my tutoring experience comes from the Spanish, Math, and Science Honor Societies, where I worked with students in subjects ranging from Calculus and Statistics to Biology and English. Several students I have worked with have told me that they hate a certain class or subject, but I firmly believe that a passionate instructor can make all the difference. My favorite subjects to tutor are math, science, and history, and when I am not tutoring I love to dance, trade stocks, and cook.

I love doing research with animals, which is why I interned in several projects during my stay at UCD. Besides my love for nature, I also enjoy math. It is the main subject I tutor in, and I find it very rewarding helping students understand different mathematical concepts. I have had previous experience in this subject with students from all grade levels. I also tutor in conversational Spanish, since I am fluent in Spanish. During my free time I enjoy knitting, reading, bird watching, and learning to play the clarinet (it's never too late).

I'm a Neuroscience and Theater double major at Wesleyan University pursuing a B.A in Neuroscience and a B.A in Theater. I love helping students succeed in classes and unlock their potential that I know they posses. I have lots of experience as a teaching assistant for college courses, as well as being a tutor for my college peers and students from elementary to high school age. By tutoring students, I learn more about my own teaching process, the subjects I am teaching, and how to create meaningful relationships that lend themselves to success in academics. I'm really passionate about neuroscience, biology, and chemistry, and I love sharing my passion with other students while ensuring their success in classes! I have been speaking and continually learning French for 4 years. I started at the university level. I spent a total of 6 months in France learning at a French University.I hold a Diplme d'tudes en Langue Franaise level B2 that is good for life. I believe learning another language is not a sprint, but rather a marathon.

After working internationally with global volunteers in a third world country to develop teaching English, childcare, and medical projects; I want to help inspire students here at home to broaden their horizons. I believe that every willing student is capable of grasping the material. However, it is crucial that the teacher finds an effective way to communicate the material to the student in a teaching method which is catered towards the student's learn abilities. Languages were an area in school in which I always had difficulty, but I was able to achieve bilingualism. Being that I struggled with this content area when I was in school, I can often sympathize with students, and help them to develop a strong understanding. I am also currently working with a local GEAR UP program in which I teach, tutor, and mentor, high school students. Giving up coming generations a better future has always been a passion of mine.

My 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Hicks, was more than a teacher to me, she was a mentor. She left a remarkable imprint on my childhood image and motivated me to become more self-confident and actually become interested in learning. As I look back, I see what made me such a good student had a lot to do with the fact that she took an invested interest in me and she was a good communicator. She was able somehow to incorporate the right balance of praise, support, and discipline in her methods of education. From this I learned first hand that a teacher can make a difference in a child's life.It has always been my goal to incorporate this ideology into my teaching; whether it was teaching Junior High School music students in Clinton, IL, or preparing High School students at Avondale Performing School of Arts, Atlanta, GA for musicals and competition meets, or giving private voice lessons in my vocal studios.It is my job, as a Music Educator, to offer an education about the voice as an instrument, how it works, and how it is used. It may be learning the basics of vocal technique, breath management, and correct posture pertaining to classical music or it may be looking at experimenting with range, interpretation, and different musical styles.It is my challenge as a Vocal Performer and Recording Artist to customize these fundamentals of music and vocal techniques to fit my student's particular abilities, interests, and goals and help them to discover and overcome any limiting “road blocks".It is my opportunity as a Vocal Coach to challenge and support my students by maximizing what they are learning by emphasizing the benefits of commitment, self discipline, and self motivation, and to provide them with every opportunity to reach and even exceed their own personal goals.The first question that I ask my students is "What are YOUR musical goals and how can I help you reach them?"Looking forward to sharing in your musical journey of self discovery and self expression!
