I have been a credentialed upper elementary and adolescent Montessori teacher for over a decade, working in multi-age 4th-6th, 7th-8th, and 9th-10th grade classrooms. I hold a BSE in Electrical Engineering/Physics from Princeton University and a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from University of Pennsylvania. I have always been passionate about math and science and I love bringing my enthusiasm to students, helping them find joy and build confidence in problem solving and discovering for themselves. I put my Political Science education to use for more than a decade working in State and Local politics, first as a Communications Director for a New York State Senator and then as the Chief of Staff to the Putnam County Executive. I have also worked on many political campaigns for election and re-election. I decided to attend law school at night while working as Chief of Staff and I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Pace Law School. I completed a two-year term clerking for a Federal Judge and now I prosecute criminals with the Westchester District Attorney's Office. I have also taught Criminal Justice at the New Rochelle campus of Monroe College.I found that when I began teaching at Monroe College, an institution known for pulling most of its students from the poorest neighborhoods of the Bronx, that many of my students would have benefited tremendously from a one-on-one tutoring relationship. That is what has brought me to Varsity Tutors. I feel compelled to work with students who, for whatever reason whether it be their own personal learning style or the difficulties associated with classroom teaching, cannot get the help they need in the traditional classroom. I feel that I have an incredible understanding, being a classroom teacher, of exactly what students need but are unable to obtain from a lecture setting. I am excited to develop this personal relationship with students in a setting that will help them get as much out of their education as possible. I have completed my undergraduate degree in biological sciences at University of Wisconsin - Parkside along with a master's in biological sciences with a concentration in health studies at Nova Southeastern University. Currently, I am pursuing a career in medicine with my ambition to be a helping hand to people. I hope to carry my expertise in helping you!

I recently graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology from BYU. My last job was working in a lab researching antibiotic resistant bacteria, HPV, and SARS-CoV-2. Over the past five years, I have been spreading the good news that math can be fun for middle school students while teaching at Aldine ISD and Houston ISD. I graduated Cum Laude from Western Oregon University in 2006 with a major in education and minors in math, science, Spanish and ESL. I have a valid Texas Standard Classroom Teacher certification for Mathematics grades 4-8. We all use math every day, so why not enjoy it! I also love social studies, English, literature, and Spanish. In addition, I studied the culture, history and language of Mexico in Puebla, Mexico.I grew up without a "hometown" since my father was in the Air Force. I raised my three children in Denver, NC, where we lived 25 years. After graduation from W Oregon U, I moved from Oregon to Houston to be near my grandchildren. I enjoy listening to mysteries on CD while I drive, do household chores, sew, quilt, and garden.

I am a cum laude graduate from Rowan University. I received my Bachelor's degree in the Field of Early Childhood Education, with a certification to teach students with disabilities. In addition I hold a Bachelor of Communications in Writing Arts. While at Rowan I had the opportunity to work with a wide array of students at the elementary level, each with unique learning styles and preferences. On top of my elementary experience I also have tutored college, and ESL students in the area of writing. I am most passionate about language arts and literacy, as I have found that if a student is confident in their ability to read and write, they improve across the curriculum. Since graduation I have gone on to teach third grade in an inner city school district, with many struggling learners. I strive to engage all learners in their own education, by using an individualized approach that works best for them.
