Since I was born and raised in a Latin American Country, I am well positioned to teach both the culture and the language. I consider this to be a great advantage, as immersing students in the most fascinating aspects of Hispanic culture can stimulate their motivation and interest in learning Spanish. It is extremely important to me to encourage students to learn and understand the importance of cultural diversity. As a Spanish teacher, I understand the relevance of the Spanish language as the second most spoken language in the U.S. I am concerned about creating a comfortable atmosphere where the learning process can be natural and dynamic and where students can feel they can achieve their goals. I have a positive attitude and I am tremendously engaged and passionate about my career. I design my lessons with flexibility of students' needs, expectations, and learning styles.I have a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Humanities as well as a Master's degree in Higher Education with an emphasis in Philosophy from one on the most prestigious universities in Colombia. My outstanding academic accomplishments, which include an undergraduate GPA of 3.7, graduate GPA of 4.0, a merit scholarship, a perfect scoring thesis, and a Maxime Cum Laude academic honor, make me suitable to provide solid instruction for all students. I have taught and tutored the Spanish language at both secondary and college level students for more than six years. Moreover, I have experience teaching other subjects such as Modern and Contemporary Philosophy and Latin American Literature. Furthermore, I worked as a philosophy researcher for the Colciencias Institute, the most important research center in Colombia. I have published several articles as well as participated in different symposiums and congresses at an international level. Finally, as a tutor, I have worked at different companies in Fairfield County area instructing adults.

I started teaching while an undergrad at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, taking on the role of Teacher's Assistant to a Film Professor at Amherst College. After that I became a corp member of Teach For America Hawaii. Through this program I gained teaching experience first in Phoenix, Arizona, where I spent six weeks teaching 6th grade math. For the following two years I taught first grade in Pahala, HI.What makes me a great tutor is a passion for education and personal relationships. I have always taken pride in academic achievement, and I am able to share that enthusiasm for accomplishment with my students through engaging teaching strategies as well as forging interpersonal relationships.My experiences teaching have led me to realize that learning is a complex process that requires more than academic content. Creating a positive environment in the classroom (or wherever we decide to do our learning) makes learning exciting. Grasping difficult concepts is a whole lot easier when the process is fun! I bring energy and empathy into my instruction, and build personal relationships with my students, which can help make things that are "boring"or "too hard" a challenge that we both want to overcome. I am a graduate from Truman State University with a degree in Romance Languages and a degree in Psychology with a focus on social behavior. I tutor for a variety of subjects including Psychology, Spanish, French, Reading, and Writing (including ACT Test Prep). My favorite subjects work on are Essay Editing and Psychology, but any subject can be fun! My tutoring style is best described as a relaxed environment so that the student can learn at a pace that best fits their abilities. I love to work with students on an educational plan so that they can reach goals and mark their progress. I am a firm believer that all students can excel in and out of the classroom by setting healthy goals and working towards them. Outside of academia, I enjoy hiking, swimming, and cooking with my family and friends.

I am a third year Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology major at Emory University. My tutoring career unofficially began helping my younger siblings with homework, but has since professionalized! I have tutored students ranging in age, interest, background, and academic capabilities. In the past year, I spent most of my time tutoring 3rd to 6th graders, working on math, reading, writing, and science homework. I also edited college English and biology papers. My favorite subjects to tutor are writing and the sciences! I love to get to know my student's interests and fill sessions with fun activities and relevant discussions. My primary goal in tutoring is to build my students' confidence, both in the material and in their ability to take control of their learning. Most importantly, I try to relate what we're learning to real world problems! In my spare time, I like to read the Economist, read a good book, hang with friends and run.
