I developed a love for history at an early age. I really enjoyed looking back at the past, and the exercise of thinking out why events fell into place the way they did. I felt that in order to understand history, one had to have a "proximate knowledge of many things," as the full picture of the past only unfolds with complex understanding and recognition of so many different aspects of life. Throughout my academic career, I have narrowed that interest to focus on Roman military history, an interest which I hope to pursue in the my future education. However, through my college education I studied a large variety of topics in the field of history, from sub-Saharan Africa throughout the colonial era and Cold War to American Indian culture throughout the America's in the age before Columbus. It has been my goal since high school to work as an educator, primarily to support my passion for history. I went to the University of Florida, obtaining a bachelor's degree in classical studies and history as well as a minor in education in pursuance of these goals, and have not stopped since. I have taught in a variety of environments; early in college I worked as a private swim instructor, and later in the same capacity for the University of North Florida. I have been a substitute teacher in Jacksonville, taking over as a permanent substitute for a middle school math class. I have also pursued tutoring on my own as well, primarily for Latin.Through Varsity Tutors, I am hoping to put forth my knowledge and academic expertise in the variety of areas I am comfortable to do so, but with particular focus on one area that remains a crucial point upon which our education system rest: standardized testing. I am a recent veteran of the rather arduous journey most students take through myriad tests, upon which their success and failure is determined. I have intimate experience and knowledge with the AP, IB, SAT, and GRE tests, and have spent time tutoring in the area of the SAT, as well as staying abreast of changes in testing protocol and procedure for those tests which I listed above, prior to my time here.At any rate, I look forward to working with students to achieve their academic goals, and to help drive new generations of success.

I graduated from The Ohio State University. I received my Bachelor's of Arts in Chemistry. Since graduating I have been working in a laboratory setting dealing mostly with wastewater and water samples. Through my work with wastwater/water samples and my work on wastewater plants I have learned how important these plants are to the health of our communities and the environment. I have mainly tutored individuals attending high school and college. My philosophy is tutoring needs to be individualized and I make sure to take the time to get to know each student to assess how they learn. I use my assessment to tailor my tutoring sessions for each student to help them learn in a fun and engaging way! Outside of work and tutoring I put my Chemistry degree to work by baking amazing desserts! I am not afraid to try new and exciting recipes in the kitchen...after all baking is chemistry you can eat.

I started tutoring at Cleveland State University while earning my Bachelor's and Master's in Chemistry. I loved to see when students grasp the material at hand. With my youngest of 4 currently in high school, I started tutoring again, first at Tri-C as a Science and Math Instructional Assistant and now as a Varsity Tutor as well.At Tri-C, I do more than just science and math though. Social Studies, Psychology, basic IT, and English are some of the other subjects I help students conquer.I firmly stand by the statement that every person has the ability to learn, just in different ways. I have experienced this on a day to day basis not only with my own siblings and children, but the students at Tri-C who have learned how to learn. They do not need to visit me as often then for help, but rather they stop in to share with me their successes!

I believe that all students have a right to learn, regardless of race, socio-economic status or abilities. Every classroom should be a safe, caring community where students are free to speak their mind and grow. My background and experiences of growing up as an immigrant who had to learn English as a Second Language, have always given me a unique perspective of what students need in order to succeed. The great educators in my life taught me that an education is the gateway to success and happiness, I am proud to be living proof of this. I have made it my life's mission to be a role model and an advocate of all students who desire and deserve to achieve their dreams through furthering their education.I completed a bachelor of arts degree from the California State University, Fullerton; a masters degree from National University and a Doctorate of Education from Trident International University. I have 25 years of experience in secondary education; 4 years as a math college tutor, 12 years as a secondary mathematics instructor and 9 years as an administrator. Currently, I work as a secondary assistant principal. I have experience teaching basic Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Algebra II Geometry, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus. I also speak Spanish fluently. In my spare time, I love to read, travel, work on arts and crafts and puzzles. Currently, I am spending most of my spare time chasing after my toddler.I am passionate about teaching and helping students succeed in Math. I look forward to the opportunity to support you in Secondary Mathematics.

I am a first year public health student at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Since I was in high school, I had the privilege of taking several accelerated classes in multiple subjects ranging from English, Biology, Literature, Algebra, and Modern Language like AP Spanish Literature. I don't believe in a favorite subject, I feel that with hard work and dedication anyone can adapt and find joys in every subject. As a tutor of local neighborhood children, and a great resource to my peers in school, I carry the reputation as the person to reach out to whenever explanations are required. As a college student, I enjoy the greater depth of information that we cover, it proves to me that education knows no bounds and any information can be incorporated in daily life.
