Hey! I'm a fourth-year Industrial Engineering student at Northwestern University. I have a strong math background paired with excellent communication and writing skills.

Being an English major at Wingate University has been one of the most rewarding experiences that I have had, and it has influenced me to want to help others enjoy the language and literary materials that are available in the world as much as I enjoy them. English can be a difficult subject for some and I want to help them understand the difficulties, as well as enjoy the wonders embedded in various literature. Of course there is literature that can be dry, but there is so much out there that is wonderful and engaging. You just have to look for it. The English language is one of the most difficult languages to understand, but approaching it from a different perspective is what helps it make sense. My goal is to apply language to everyday use, which is the tactic that seems to help others grasp harder concepts. It can be challenging, but that is half the fun when it comes to English. There is so much potential waiting to be attained. You only have to listen to someone speak or open a book to begin understanding and appreciating English.

I have over 20 years of experience in teaching and tutoring students of all ages. After earning my Bachelor's of Science in Spanish and ESL, I went on to teach in the public school system. While teaching 4th, and then 3rd grade bilingual students, I earned my Masters of Science in Reading Education. In 2009, I decided to put my professional career on hold in order to raise my children. As my children reached school-age I made the decision to home-educate them. I have been teaching my own children for 10 years now and currently teach all subjects at the 5th and 8th grade levels. While homeschooling my children, I continue to tutor other students as well. Throughout this time I have been tutoring students in everything from sewing and crafting to learning to read to editing college essays. I am a passionate teacher who loves what I do! It is my joy to walk beside students as they grow and walk through their educational journey.

I received my Bachelor's in Philosophy from the University of Minnesota. I am a driven and impassioned learner who is insatiably curious and continually pursuing new experiences. I try to balance analytic focus with creative insight and big-picture-thinking. I am quick to adapt to whatever situation I may find myself in, always looking for elegant and creative solutions to problems.After studying Philosophy and Computer Science as an undergrad, I ventured abroad to teach English in South Korea. After four years, I have recently returned home to pursue an M.A. in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) to expand my knowledge and take the next step in furthering my career.I love solving puzzles and problems of all sorts, mainly logic and word problems, and enjoy helping my students find joy in working through their own puzzles. I am a great listener and adept at clarifying difficult problems as well as finding novel perspectives and heuristics for solving problems.

I love math!! My goal is to make sure that students understand the math that they are doing, while also being able to solve problems proficiently. I love to help students grow confident in their math skills, even when they might not be yet! I am a certified secondary math teacher with experience teaching Algebra II, Honors Algebra II, Accelerated Geometry, 7th grade math, and 8th grade math and experience tutoring Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Pre-calculus, and Calculus. I have a degree in mathematics and a degree in mathematics education from the University of Georgia with a 3.9 GPA.

There's a huge part of my personality that wants to help individuals learn in the best, positive way that they can. Everyone grasps knowledge differently, so it is vital to take a unique approach with each individual. I specialize in English Literature, Reading Comprehension, and History. My philosophy is that no one can take away the power of your mind. Knowledge is power, as they say, so educate yourself constantly.Outside of academics, I enjoy spending time with my loved ones, reading (of course!,) writing, gardening, cooking, enjoying nature and coffee. I've recently graduated from college with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, minoring in chemistry; math; and gender, women, and sexuality studies.On campus, I've worked in pharmacology and bone/muscle labs. I've also worked as an emergency medical technician for six years now, and have helped other EMT students practice for their national exams. I love constantly learning new things in both of these jobs, and hope my passion for learning is transferred to my students.As an older sibling, I've been tutoring my brother and sister on everything from schools to sports. I've officially worked as a tutor for three years through school, and have experience tutoring in a variety of different subjects, such as French, Spanish, biology, math, history, and ACT Test Prep.
