I conducted my graduate work at Washington University, in St. Louis, in Social Work and Education. My academic background and social work experience with adolescents allows me to draw from a wealth of content knowledge and to connect with students, creating a learning environment conducive to high academic achievement. When working with adolescents, I focus on academics, but I also strive to build self-confidence, improve organizational skills, and inspire curiosity. Most importantly, I work with parents, Teachers, and Counselors to turn teenagers into lifelong learners.I work with students in Language Arts courses to perfect their analytical skills, advance critical thinking, and increase reading comprehension. I also assist with all stages of the writing process, where I encourage a pre-writing, drafting, and revision approach. Collaborating with college bound students on writing polished and expressive admissions essays is one of my favorite ways to work with young writers; it is rewarding to help students find their unique voice at an exciting time in their lives. In my free time, I love playing outside with my son, reading for book clubs, knitting, and watching movies.

I am a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I received my PhD in English with a specialization in Womens and Gender Studies. My areas of interest include Twentieth and Twenty-First Century American Literature, Cultural Studies, and Ethnic Literature. I taught college classes in English Composition and Literature for twelve years, and just recently left the university and moved to Chicago. In addition to teaching at the University of Nebraska, I worked as a writing tutor at a community college and loved the experience. I mostly worked with non-traditional students ranging in ages 17-70, many of whom use English as a second language. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Writing and Literature. In my experience, a lot of people fear writing because they think theyre not good at it. I enjoy trying to ease this tension because I see writing as an art and a way to express how we feel about ourselves and the world we live in. One word at a time and the piece will come together; I promise. I believe education comes in a variety of forms, and as a tutor I do my best to meet you where youre at. Working with a tutor doesn't have to be stuffy and dry, and it doesn't even have to feel like work. I think that most learning evolves out of having a conversation about the work were being asked to do. In my spare time, I enjoy biking, yoga, and playing with my two little dogs.

My first experience with tutoring was during the junior year of high school. In Chemistry class I would help others and my teacher would encourage me to do so as well. I would help students with test corrections and classwork. Me helping others, in fact, helped me develop communicational skills and gain confidence about the material I had learned. Later during the year, I assisted chemistry teachers with symposiums for STAAR and the finals.After graduation, I started tutoring privately. I've worked with mostly middle school and few high school students.Currently I tutor for iEducateUSA, a non-profit organization that assigns tutors to elementary schools to provide extra help for the students. I've been tutoring fifth graders for the past year and it has been an exceptional experience. I hope to continue this journey for a very long time.

I received my Bachelors Degree from Boston University in 2012. I graduated as a major of Biology specializing in Ecology and Conservation. I am currently attending Northeastern University School of Law and working towards my Juris Doctor and my Masters in Environmental Law and Policy. Throughout my years at Boston University, I tutored as a Biology Mentor in the Student to Student Mentorship Program. I also worked as a teaching assistant at a local daycare for over seven years. At the daycare, I worked with children from the ages of six weeks to six years. The facility I worked for was credited and licensed as a full pre-school and kindergarten with the necessary curriculums. Thus, I have years of experience helping younger children learn the basics that will become the foundation of their learning in life. My favorite subject to teach and tutor is Science. Although I specialize in Biology, I have much experience with the other sciences as well. My teaching philosophy changes with the age group I tutor. For older students, I work on building confidence in the subject and help with the memorization-heavy like Biology. I excel in helping students not only learn the information, but also in helping them input the information to memory for exam time. For younger students, I focus on building the student’s confidence in learning in general, as well as the subject they are working on. A younger student is learning for the first time, and the process can be intimidating, especially if his or her peers are learning at a rate different from their own. If a younger student associates learning with a negative experience early in life, their learning and their outlook on school will be negatively affected. Thus, I find it very important to instill a positive attitude about learning at an early age. In my spare time, I enjoy running, practicing yoga, sketching and playing music. I play the flute and the ukulele. I am also an avid nature lover. I enjoy hiking and kayaking when the New England weather permits!

I have several years of teaching experience, ranging from grades 1-12, and am dual certified in English and Special Education. I've worked in an artistic capacity with many different groups including Chicago Artist's Month and International Children's Film Festival, as well as countless independent music and theatre performances.I've worked in many different educational settings professionally; including managing some of the most challenging unstructured time with students like before and after school programs, recess and lunch, as well as summer day camp programs.It's my goal as an educator to be a bridge that creates intersectional access to students of all backgrounds and identities; be they personal, cultural, economic, or otherwise.Education for me is about connecting with people under the auspice of sharing knowledge, and as such creating a reciprocal relationship that suits the students' needs is of paramount importance. In other words, I hope to learn as much from my students as they learn from me!I know each person has different interests, and it's my job to develop those interests and manifest them into new exciting attitudes towards learning and other creative superpowers waiting for a chance to emerge.My interests include art and music. In my spare time I love to practice Martial Arts, go running, or even do a bit of Parkour.

There I earned my bachelors degrees in both Secondary Education and English. I've now entered the Graduate School of Special Education. Born and raised in New York City, I studied at Pomona College in Los Angeles and spent a semester in Madrid, worked for a few years in Miami at a Latin American technology company and have recently moved to the Detroit area to pursue music more seriously.My education has always reflected my diverse and strong interest across disciplines. My liberal arts undergraduate education focused rigorously on the humanities delving deeply into critical thinking and writing. Through this I have always maintained a logical methodical style of thinking required to understand and guide through math and science.Working as a tutor allows me to continue to share my passion for learning. I still vividly remember the experience of studying for standardized tests, applying to college or simply working through weekly problem sets.
