I'm from Georgia, and I received all of my bachelor's degrees (Ecology, Biology, and Marine Biology) at the University of Georgia. After I graduated, I moved to Florida to pursue my Master's degree at the University of South Florida. While I was a graduate student, I realized that I loved teaching science to students at camps and education outreach events.After I graduated, I was a scientist for the state of Florida for about a year before I took a job as a teacher. Over 10 years, I taught Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy, and Marine Science. I have a special place in my heart for students of chemistry and math because I struggled in high school with chemistry, but after all this time, I'm really good at explaining these concepts, and I'm able to help students learn to pass these classes. I tutor most math and science classes along with test prep for the SAT and ACT.I have taught students in-person and online, and I have built digital courses for students to learn concepts, so I have a very diverse set of skills to help your student succeed!

I graduated Haverford College in 2012 with a B.A. in Astrophysics and a minor in Classical Archaeology. I am currently the Master Electrician for the Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, PA. While I am most adept at Physics, Astronomy and Math, I have always had a passion for English Grammar, proofreading and editing. That same love of English helps me when trying to communicate mathematical and scientific ideas to those for whom the sciences are a struggle. Conversely, I feel that my science background helps me teach English to people who excel more in the sciences. In my free time I like to cook, read, play bridge and travel.

I am currently an engineer in the design and construction industry for an international construction company, and a recent graduate from the University of Arizona. I received my Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering in May 2016 and left my roots in Tucson, Arizona. In my spare time, I enjoy soaking up the beautiful views around here by hiking, running, and adventuring. My hobbies also include cooking and baking, beauty pageants, bargain shopping, and traveling whenever the opportunity arises. I began tutoring elementary and middle school students in basic study skills, math, and reading at a young age, and have been tutoring since. From there, my tutoring experiences have expanded to help students of all ages from primary school to university level in basic math, pre-calculus, college level math; biology, chemistry, physics; Spanish and SAT and ACT prep. But in my present life as a professional tutor, I work closely with young people (elementary school, middle school, high school, and university students) to overcome academic and learning difficulties, and experience with them the satisfaction of good results.I've come to learn some important things about tutoring; that:* Effective tutoring is usually as much about mentoring as it is about teaching.* There should be no limits to the creativity that the tutor is prepared to bring to the table in helping a student (going beyond the presentation of black letters or numbers on a white page).* In addition to solidifying basic skills, it's critically important to build up a student's creativity, confidence, and resilience, in moving toward the ultimate goals of enhancing the student's original thinking and capacity for independent learning.* Above all, patience is the greatest virtue.I look forward to the opportunity to work closely with my students at Varsity Tutors and help them to reach their fullest potential.

I recently left my post as a graduate student and researcher at Stanford University to pursue a career in medicine. My educational journey has been a long one, but I've always loved learning and that love has kept me in school (whether for better or worse :P) for more years than I can count. Though I don't plan on being a student forever, the time that I've spent preparing for college, graduate school, and now medical school has reminded me of how enabling a strong academic record can be.I've been tutoring since I was in high school and have worked with students at every level of education. I specialize in teaching from a very fundamental perspective and in building concepts from the ground up but also enjoy helping students to "just get done" with their homework. Though I'm particularly fond of math and science, I can provide assistance in almost any subject (from Latin to world geography to art history), and can also help in preparing students for standardized tests such as the SAT, GRE, and MCAT.Above all though, my approach to tutoring is simply about having fun and inspiring students to do their best. Assignments and tests are really just chances for students to demonstrate how much they already know, and allowing each student to shine at his or her brightest is what tutoring is all about.

Though I hail from north Texas, I attended Principia College, a small liberal arts institution in Illinois. There, I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English, with an emphasis in literary studies. As a student and Postgraduate Teaching Intern, I gained a great deal of tutoring experience in writing and literature. I took a rigorous training course to become a tutor for Principia's writing center my junior year, and thereafter served as a peer Writing Tutor, helping students with papers in a variety of subjects, for a year and a half. After graduating, I continued to tutor students writing literature papers as a teaching assistant for the College's English department for a year. Now that I'm back in Texas, running a small student residence near UT, I'm grateful that I get to continue tutoring! I absolutely love working with students and seeing them grow as writers and thinkers. I work from the basis that all my students are capable of successfully completing any task or assignment given to them, and I serve to share tools and strategies that will help them do so, while also showing them much support and compassion. When I'm not working, I'm most likely cycling, reading and writing at the park, or exploring new foods and places around town.

I plan on returning to school to receive my Bachelor of Architecture by 2022. In the past, I have tutored a range of students from middle school- to college-aged, in school subjects like writing, math, and science. I have tutored an eighth grade student in the ISEE, and I have tutored high school students in SAT/ACT as well. I love working with students on both STEM subjects and humanities, as my major encompasses both fields almost equally. Now that I've graduated with a degree in architecture, I'm also interested in helping architecture students learn the programs necessary to succeed in the major, including Adobe Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator, and modeling softwares such as Rhino and SketchUp.
