I have worked as a teacher, tutor and mentor for over 10 years. I am passionate about finding special aptitudes and talents in my students that make them prepared and excited about college.

I hold a PhD in European History from the University of Chicago. I have taught at the university level and in continuing education settings since I received my degree in 1995. Students in my courses learn how to engage with material, how to analyze large bodies of information and draw conclusions, how to think critically about information and ideas, and how to organize and prioritized information. I also emphasize writing skills for students. Every class I have ever taught has completed a writing assignment. As a talented writer myself, I have the skills to work with students to improve their writing abilities. I work with them on style and content. I am very familiar with MLA and Chicago styles. I teach my students how to formulate a thesis, or an argument; how to use evidence to test that argument; how to perform analysis on that evidence; how to draw conclusions from that analysis; and how to present it all in an interesting and engaging manner. Students in my classes experience success in other classes and in their education. A significant number have gone on to pursue graduate study, including at Ivy League schools, while others have pursued successful career paths in various professions. I am a gifted teacher who is able to connect with students and assist them in their studies.

I Tutor Elementary School students at a place called Making a Difference for Inc. I've tutored for the past seven months and I am ecstatic with the academic progress made by my students. All of my students were struggling with D averages in math, reading and writing. However, that has all changed and they are all thriving with B's and A's. I am pleased to announce that I've successfully published my book of poetry "Angst in Prose" alluded to in my personal statement. My book is self-published and I have global marketing through major retailers.

I am a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where I majored in History and minored in Secondary Education. I am in my first year of teaching high school social studies in Chicago. My teaching endorsements are in psychology, political science, geography, sociology, and anthropology. For the last 5 years, I have been a part of the Golden Apple Scholar program in Illinois where preservice teachers work in schools-of-need.

Each person deserves a great and meaningful education! I had such a great time earning my BA in English Literature from Butler University, as well as attaining my M.Ed. in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. All of this was due to committed and memorable teachers!As a result, I was inspired to become an educator.As a teacher, my job is to help students tap into their incredibly unique potential. After graduating with my B.A. in Political Science from the University of Maine, I worked in an urban school in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston to help students achieve higher marks in English/Language Arts and Math. Since graduation, I have done various work with at risk youth and education. This summer I traveled to the Czech Republic for an international YMCA youth festival, where I was able to learn what other countries are doing regarding education. I have an extreme passion for education and how it correlates to crime, and am pursuing the application process of a doctoral degree in this field. I have experience working with students first-eighth grade in various subjects. I am most passionate about English, Essay writing, and Grammar skills. Tutoring is about finding that spark for students. I try to work with the student to find a way to relate to whatever subject they are struggling with. This means being open and flexible in my styles. When a student sees the light at the end of the tunnel, it is such a rewarding experience. I have found once they can get past their struggles, they become passionate about taking on the next obstacle.
