Hello students and parents. I am a Reading Specialist in a private school by career. I've been in education for 19 years and still going strong! I've taught in elementary as well as middle (well rounded). I graduated with an undergrad BA degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Masters in Reading K-12 endorsed. I've always had a love for finding easier ways to teach children and adults. Seeing many frustrated students over years made me want to become apart of the solution. It's a true joy to watch students fall in love with learning!Throughout my professional experience as a teacher, I have had many opportunities to teach students with a huge range of abilities, including academically gifted, ADHD, dyslexia, and autism. My commitment to maximizing individual student performance and inspiring students' interest in learning drives each tutoring session. Although I love teaching all subject areas, developing children's written expression is a real passion of mine. Since Florida Standards expect students to explain their thinking in both reading and math, it is extremely important to excel in writing. The use of visual aides, manipulatives (tangible objects for students to use while learning), and easy-to-learn test-taking strategies are appropriate and highly effective for my students. I truly believe that making education fun and enjoyable for young students is the key to producing self-motivated learners.In my spare time, I love to be outside! I have recently moved to Florida and enjoy running, biking, swimming, and paddleboarding. My husband and I have a daughter who is now crawling, so much of my day is spent chasing after her! I also love to read and go to the library to find new books. When we have the time, our family enjoys attending sporting events, and we are excited to see a Tampa Rays game soon!

I obtained my B.A in English language and literature, with a minor in music, at the University of Washington, Seattle. Since high school, my passion has been traveling and making connections with people of different ages and cultures. I took a gap year after high school to backpack in Europe, spent a summer in Russia at a children's camp, and did a summer study abroad learning about social justice in India. My last quarter of college was an internship teaching ESL in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. While I love studying literature of all genres, I feel the most impactful literary experience is one that deeply resonates with the reader, and inspires them to write their own stories. This is why I am an advocate for detailed, creative, and personal essay writing. The most powerful essay or piece of academic writing is one which is inspired by the writer's personal instincts and experiences. In my tutoring, I strive to find literature or experiences which ignite creativity in an essay. When I'm not traveling, or planning my next trip, I enjoy reading, hiking, playing piano, and finding new music.

When I was a South Bronx youth, my young parents worked all the time and my grandparents, aunts, and uncles supported me while obtaining my education in New York City.
