I guess this stems from my own love of learning, but tutoring lets me share this love in a one-on-one, individual scenario. I am a native Spanish speaker born in Panama. I have a BA in Journalism from The University of Panama, and have traveled extensively in the United States and abroad, interacting with many people of different backgrounds, ethnicity, and social, financial and academics levels. I have previously worked as a reporter for newspapers, magazines and most recently I have been teaching conversational Spanish, basic Spanish grammar, Spanish reading and composition to beginning, intermediate and advanced government and private students from teenagers on up.Teaching has been a rewarding experience for me. It has given me the opportunity to help my students open the door to a different, exciting world of understanding and communicating in an additional language to their own, and an opportunity to know a different culture. Respect for the confidentially and privacy of my students, is also important to me.I have only recently moved to Florida and have been enjoying the wonderful weather, the sun and walking along the ocean. I love reading in several languages, like to watch American and international detective mysteries, classic movies, and I love Latin American, Mediterranean and Asian dishes, especially Thai and Vietnamese food, and Chinese breakfast dim sum.

I have taught a variety of grade levels ranging from Prekindergarten through 12th grade over my teaching career. I love teaching language and culture, and have taught all levels of Spanish ranging from introductory through AP Spanish. Besides teaching, I love home design and also work in real estate. My husband is Peruvian and we are a bilingual family. My four kids all speak both English and Spanish and love to travel to their father's homeland.

I spent many years holding editorial positions on both coasts (California and New York), but was happy to lay some roots and start a family back home in Minneapolis, a city alive with art, activism and stories waiting to be told. I am excited to help students craft their own words as well as assist with many other subjects, including English, writing, politics and social sciences.

As an NYU graduate student earning my M.P.A., my passion is in helping students embrace the ability to understand the material at hand well enough to teach the material to others. Both should be celebrated because each one gets you one step closer to your dream.I learn by doing so I think my default is to walk a student through a process while I use a silly metaphor to better explain the process. Not everyone learns the same so I appreciate when a student gives feedback and we can work together to achieve their goals.I can relate to being overwhelmed when taking quizzes and tests so I also try to give test taking advice. For example, in Financial Accounting, I suggest information like the accounting equation and an example journal entry be written off to the side. Accounting questions typically are very wordy so this can help you remember to return to the basics.I think my favorite subject to teach is Microsoft Excel. I have always had a love for computers but I think using this software really shows the depth of my fascination.I have a business degree in Finance and Accounting as well as a Masters of Accountancy from the University of Oklahoma. I became a CPA at the end of 2018.

I graduated from the University of Virginia with degrees in Mathematics, with a finance concentration, and Economics, with a focus on public policy. I I would be lying if I said that I knew what I want to be when I grow up. I can say with certainty, however, that I love to teach, which is what I've done since graduation as a coach and teacher at The Gilman School. As the oldest of five boys I've spent my life practicing the arts of patient mediation and instruction. I am also a huge nerd and the greatest thrill of any nerd is sharing what they love with others. I happen to love math, and science, and writing, and history... And I really enjoy sharing these subjects with others. I am currently a middle and high school math teacher who excels in working patiently with students and in one-on-one tutoring arrangements. I worked as an economics tutor throughout college as well as a middle school math and science tutor. I also co-designed and led a class. When I reflect on my college involvements, these were the most rewarding and enjoyable. I am excited by the opportunity to continue to instruct though the platform that varsity tutors offers. I have also taught in summer programs and after school programs. I am well adept in meeting the needs of children with different learning styles and abilities. I have taught students in the regular classroom and in self-contained classrooms. I have taught students with learning disabilities, ADD and ADHD, multiple handicaps, communication disorders, autism and Down syndrome. Students have had a wide range of abilities and disabilities.
