How can Calculus tutoring help you?

Calculus is one of the most difficult branches of mathematics, and it may be easy to become confused with its many concepts and laws. Terms such as a Maclaurin series, antiderivatives, the law of continuity, and Bernoulli numbers may be hard to memorize and even harder to apply. It is easy to fall behind in lessons, and you may not even know what questions to ask to catch up. Your professor likely may not spend enough time with you to get all caught up, and your classmates are likely too busy with other commitments to help you work to understand the subject. In situations like these a tutor is incredibly useful, and they may give you the devotion and instruction that you need to become truly proficient in calculus. The educational directors at Varsity Tutors may help you connect with professional and experienced calculus tutors in Memphis. Session Summaries by Calculus Tutors

Calculus Tutoring review by Brian in Memphis, TN
This is our last session in preparation for the student's end-of-semester finals. We reviewed his epiphany essay structure again and spent the remainder of our time focusing on history terms. As before, we focused on answering where-when-why questions for each term. I believe if he continues the process we have started and completes it for each listed term, he should have no difficulty with the terms/identification section of his exam. If he finishes this list, it will be a powerful tool for reviewing for his end-of-year exams as well.

We reviewed the main concepts in preparation for his first exam next week. We used the supplied review to look at multiple ways to ask similar questions as well as questions that required some more rigorous thought processes. The student did well in adapting to the different styles of questions. I asked him to complete the next section of questions in preparation for our next session so that he can practice.

Calculus Tutoring review by Samuel in Memphis, TN
The student got her grades back this semester. She has shown much improvement in the last month with regards to study habits and understanding of material. We started the session by making some goals for the semester and concrete steps in order to achieve the goals. She likes the mathematics recipe cards that we have been making so that will be part of first daily study routine. She will also be doing problems from the textbook that have answers in the back so she can check yourself. We will then start each session by looking over the problems that she had questions about. We then reviewed all of the material not on the midterm moving forward. This material started from the basic definition of derivative and has moved all the way to chain rule.

Calculus Tutoring review by Aaron in Memphis, TN
We did some problems from his test review sheet, involving growth rates (linear, percentage, and exponential) and cost/revenue functions. If he reads the problem carefully and thinks about the ones we've completed, then I think he will be fine on the test.

Calculus Tutoring review by Connor in Memphis, TN
Today we spent time on exponential growth, deriving the formula for growth and Newton's law of cooling from the word problems given in class. After that we worked on how to solve them, and what different parts of the equation mean. We also covered slope fields, how to identify patterns as well as how to draw them from scratch, the strategies used for that (find the zeros, find the 1's and -1's, then spread out from there if the pattern isn't obvious) and how to do process of elimination for multiple choice answers. We did slope field for quadratic, cubic and trig functions, which the student had no problem with once we went over the procedure.

Calculus Tutoring review by John in Memphis, TN
We covered a review of differentiation, integration, and the fundamental theorem of calculus. The student was absent for an extended period of time and has gotten behind in her studies. Her attitude was excellent, and she was able to answer my questions as we reviewed her homework assignment. I recommended the use of flashcards to assist her with remembering how to differentiate and integrate certain types of problems. We will continue to review homework and go over her exam to show her the correct format and order of operations for her calculus class. We have established a schedule for the remaining sessions. It is clear that she knows the materials; she just needs help catching up in class.
