Tutoring with humor and compassion.I'm a first-generation college graduate from a working-class family. My teachers were some of the most positive influences in my life, and I want to pass on their legacy by helping students succeed. I have three years of experience tutoring college chemistry, and one year tutoring statistics. I have a PhD in microbiology, and use statistical modeling in my research. Additionally, I have taught science majors and non-majors at ASU and MCC as an instructor and as a teaching assistant for four years. When I meet a new tutoring client, I start by asking about their goals, and determining their preferred learning styles in order to help customize their learning experience. I use a variety of established teaching strategies based on how the brain, memory, and human psychology work together to foster enjoyable and successful learning.

Efficiency is the value I hold dearest. Rather than tutor for the sake of hours, I hope to spend my time and the time of my clients effectively. I aim to not only improve test scores, but to set students up so they may efficiently study without a tutor. I hope to not only have an impact on students during the few hours I see them, but to improve their study habits for a lifetime's impact.

Successful tutoring should be defined by the long-term success of the student. I tutored throughout my high school career, working with other students my age in a professional but personable manner. In my experience, having a tutor you can relate and talk to is one of the most important factors in the success of a student. When the traditional teacher and classroom setting have been ineffective, the best course of action is to try a more personable style of teaching. This is what I do best, and I am entirely committed to ensuring every one of my students break through the barriers preventing them from reaching their full potential. My process involves an individual, connected explanation of the content, discussing problem-solving strategies to make testing much easier than it seems, encouraging practice and the growth of individual learning, and making sure my style of teaching is right for my student's style of learning. Most importantly, I seek to make my students love learning as much as I do.

After graduating with my MA in Latin from the University of Michigan, I found myself in unfamiliar territory. I had been a student my entire life, and suddenly, I was not. My eventual goal was (and still is) to earn a teaching certificate, but that is still a ways off. What else could I do? An idea hit me.Just because I am not a student anymore, however, does not mean I can't still dedicate myself to learning. There is no better way to do that than to help others learn too, and that is, most of all, what I want to do.I hope you, too, will learn with me.

I have been a student tutor since freshman year of my high school, I am currently a sophomore at University of Kansas. I tutored my classmates in the classes I am enrolled in and in the classes that I have already taken. I tutored students in calculus I and II, college algebra, and chemistry. I am currently a student tutor for my school TRIO Supportive Educational Services, and I am going to apply to be either a chemistry or a math teaching assistant. Also I am a student tutor for tutoring websites, and I tutored students from more than 20 classes through them.I feel great when I can help students understand the problems and help them achieve their goals. I am very thankful that God gave me the ability to think subjects like Calculus and Chemistry to be interesting, so I want help others to see that they can learn a hard course in a fun way. I am very patient when comes to problem explaining, and I would always come up different ways to explain the problem to different students. I love my job.I have received an A+ in algebra 1 and 2, geometry, precalculus, and both calculus courses. I try to prepare myself every time before I tutor a student, I would do many problems that are related to the subject and I like to come up new ways to teach students to help them engage in the lessons.

Even as a boy, there were three things I enjoyed above others: learning about the world, traveling with my family and working with other people to solve a problem or complete a project. Naturally, I also loved to play but even that often fit into these three areas.I'm not a youngster anymore, in fact I retired two years ago, but those loves have always been with me and have influenced me greatly. I have spent most of my professional life in schools where I could learn and help others learn as well and where I could work with hundreds of students over the years, each with unique personalities, strengths, interests and needs. I taught math, science and technology in middle and high schools and eventually became a high school principal and school director. But I was always a teacher first and always motivated by the individual students in my classes and schools. And what about my love of travel? After teaching for 3 years in Kansas, my wife and I became teachers in international schools, working in some of the best schools in the world with the children of diplomats and business professionals posted abroad. For nearly 30 years and in seven countries, we supported the learning of students, many of whom were American but many others who came from at least 50 other countries and whose home languages were diverse but who were learning in an American-curriculum, English language based school much like the best independent schools here in the U.S.So now I am happily retired here in Lawrence, enjoying being close to family but missing that special satisfaction of sharing in the learning and growth of my students. I have a wealth of strategies and tools to bring to the learning process that I hope can help me to help any learner.

I am a college student working toward my Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at the University of Kansas. I have attained my Associate of Arts from Johnson County Community College. My favorite subject to tutor is math because it is a language that we use to interpret what happens around us. That is why it becomes really important to excel in math skills as its applications are endless. I enjoy the process of helping students because understanding math is not only about understanding math. It is also about applying that math in real life. My approach to helping you get there is first to make sure that you understand the concept behind the subject matter. Then, we will work on practice problems to see how that concept can be applied.
