I graduated from William Jewell College in 2012 with a B.A. in English Language and Literature. I also hold a minor degree in Spanish. While in university, I studied abroad in Oxford, England as part of my school's honors program and caught the travel bug. After working for a software company for a few years, I moved to South Korea to teach ESL. There, I taught a range of ages and skill levels, from kindergarten phonics to university-level English literature courses. I also have extensive experience teaching test preparation strategies and skills, having prepared my ESL students to take the international baccalaureate English entrance exam (iBT TOEFL). While in Korea, I was promoted to Head Instructor and oversaw a team of five teachers, mentoring them and encouraging them to make classes as fun and interactive as possible. I am passionate about meeting students where they are at and using unique ways of keeping them engaged, such as lesson-relevant games, situational dialogue, and real objects whenever possible. After three years abroad, I'm excited to be back in the Kansas City area and working with students from where I grew up. Though ESL is my primary field, I tutor a range of subjects, including standard English, writing, Spanish, and test prep. When not tutoring, I enjoy cooking and eating spicy foods, reading the latest Hugo award winners, and playing in adult sports leagues.
