We began by learning about early embryonic development after fertilization. We discussed how the embryo forms a blastula and then a gastrula, which develops into the three tissue layers. After that, we began animal diversity. There are 9 phyla within animalia and we discussed Porifera, Cnidaria, Platyhelminthes, Nematoda, and Mollusca. We learned distinguishing characteristics of each group and some examples.

We finished our session by discussing DNA and cDNA genetic libraries.
