I am a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University. My tutoring experience has mainly revolved around teaching second-graders reading and arithmetic, but I have some experience with higher-level subjects as well. I tutor mathematics ranging from elementary-school math to calculus, physics, and chemistry. My favorite subject to tutor is algebra because I have found that students are most satisfied with their progress in this subject. I am a very hands-on tutor, as I like the student to try as many problems as possible. However, I can adapt to meet the needs of the student. Outside of academia, I play tennis and ski, and enjoy watching sports and playing video games.

As much as I love chemistry, it is nice to take a break from memorizing structures and pathways which is why I enjoy tutoring math! I feel I am a great tutor because I have tutored many different students with different learning styles and different attitudes towards the subject. I go above and beyond to make sure my students understand the material and have a successful tutoring experience.In my free time I like being active and reading or watching sports (or netflix) to relax. I am currently reading the A Song of Ice and Fire series (no spoilers please!), and I am on a recreational soccer team with some of my friends. I am also a member of the University of Washington Drumline where I am the bass drum section leader and have been fortunate enough to travel to places like Hawaii and Alaska with the band! I love football and am counting the days until the Seahawks and Huskies seasons begin.

In my previous tutoring experience, I've worked with students of ages ranging from 10 to 18. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, my favorite to teach are Math, Chemistry, Physics, and Test Prep, because they provide the greatest problem solving challenges. I enjoy working through difficult problems with students, because I believe that with the right guidance, they are universally capable of rising to the challenge. Outside of academics, I enjoy dancing, listening to music, and photography.

During college, I spent a year studying in Argentina and came to love South American culture. I'd like to live there again someday. I also like to ski (Tahoe is my favorite place), run on dirt trails around Black Mountain, and read good books. In high school, I enjoyed Algebra and Calculus, and I am most confident tutoring these subjects. I used to look forward to taking Algebra and Calculus tests because my teachers equipped me with the skills I needed to confidently approach tough test questions. This is the vision I have for my students: that they will be prepared with the knowledge that math questions are tough, and that they will have the skills and confidence to find solutions to these problems without fear. Math is hard. It can be one of the most frustrating subjects because so much discipline is required to truly grasp each mathematical concept. Once you've put in the work, math turns out to be a gem among school subjects because it is so rewarding. Having recently graduated from high school, I am very familiar with both the information and strategies required to succeed in standardized tests such as the SAT, ACT, SAT Subject Tests, PSAT, and AP Exams. By self-study only, I made perfect scores on my first try on 8 AP Exams, SAT, and 2 SAT Subject Tests, as well as a 35 on the ACT. I know that a self-motivated student can achieve great success if they are motivated and organized in their study approach. I have been tutoring for four years, in areas from the sciences to test prep to language arts.As a tutor, I prefer to individually tailor study plans to a student's needs, and am adaptable in both the pace and approach we take to learning the material. My goal is to eventually prepare each student to a level at which they can succeed independently in the future.
