Let's take some time to explore the different parts of the MCAT.
Which topics do an Albany MCAT course assist me in studying?
The MCAT is divided into four components that are further explored in the Albany MCAT courses. These parts include Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills, Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems, Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems, and Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior. The test will last 6 hours and 15 minutes in its entirety. Although this seems a long period of time, it will be prudent for you to incorporate study techniques to maximize your ability to answer questions accurately yet quickly so that you have ample time to complete all of the questions.
The Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills section will involve 53 questions spread out over 9 question sets. You will be given 90 minutes to finish this part of the test. The questions will be accompanied by passages relating to the humanities and the social sciences. These questions will test your skills in reading comprehension, analysis, and verbal reasoning, as well as your basic English language skills. Helpful study techniques for this part of the test may involve practicing extrapolation of main parts of excerpts, applying new information, and drawing inferences based on passages.
When you take the Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems part of the MCAT, you will have a total of 95 minutes to answer 59 questions. These questions are divided into 10 sets of questions which are based on excerpts, as well as 15 stand-alone questions. The questions in this part of the test relate to how the physical and chemical aspects of living organisms function. To do well in this section, it will be helpful for you to study how physical, biochemical, and mechanical processes happen in the body.
The Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section will include 59 questions which have 10 accompanying passages and 15 questions that are independent of the passages over the course of 95 minutes. The components of this section will pertain to key aspects of biochemistry and biology, as well as organic chemistry and general chemistry. When you study for this part of the test, you'll want to review the relationships between organ systems and cells in their overall functions in living beings.
You will also be asked questions in a Physical, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section. This part of the test will last 95 minutes and will include 59 questions relating to 10 passages and 15 stand-alone questions. In this area of the exam, your knowledge in subjects including sociology, basic psychology, and biology will be tested. As you prepare for this part of the exam, it will be helpful for you to review the effects of diverse social, cultural, and psychological phenomena on health. You will also want to look over topics relating to human behavior.
