I have 5 years of tutoring experience in writing, English, and public speaking. I graduated from Truman State University with honors in May 2016. I like tutoring because I believe it is a great way to continue learning while also helping others learn.

If I'm not working, I am almost definitely making a Spotify playlist or reading a book. I'm also a huge TV nerd and lover of all things pop culture.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe every client has something to learn from me, and I have something to learn from every client. Communication is critical to ensuring this learning happens from both sides, and maintaining open and honest communication is the number one goal.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I ask a lot of questions in the first session to get an understanding of their comfort level, learning style, goals, and motivation.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By placing the final responsibility of learning in their hands. I am merely a guider of their learning. They must be an active participant in the session, and to create that environment I ask a lot of questions, provide a lot of opportunities for students to try things out on their own first, and encourage questioning from the student.
