My teaching career spans from 1974 to 2013. Throughout these years I taught the elementary grades- PreK to grade 4.I have worked with students who were frustrated and angry, and some who were willing to learn. What I am happy about is that I was able to see success in my classroom by using specific strategies.I was able to impact the lives of many of my students throughout those years.
One subject that I saw growth and understanding in was mathematics. In math I always used manipulatives. Students in the lower grades get a better understanding of a topic when they use hands on material. I also allowed my students to work in groups. Allowing group work in the classroom further helps students to develop skills of cooperation, sharing and appreciation of others. Journal writing can be done in all subject areas, and I also incorporated it in my classes. I also allowed peer tutoring so that students can help each other. Applying to be a tutor at this time would not only help my students but it will also help me to keep abreast of what is happening in education. I would like to be a tutor because I have the experience and the knowledge. I know I will make a difference in the life of a student who needs that extra assistance.
