Tutoring review by Julia in Seminole, FL
Last night, the student and I did practice problems from 7.1 through 7.6 to practice for her test that was today. I think we are both confident she will do well. I reminded her of the correct process for radical/exponential notation when simplifying, as well as how to correctly change a number with a negative exponent into a fraction. That second part will be important when she comes upon the graphing portion of the test. I told her to go over these concepts and do a few more problems on her own.

We covered word problems and expressions. We reviewed and corrected three homework assignments on the topic and will continue to go over the material during the next meeting. As we went over the material, the student showed improvement, getting most of the problems correct. Also, the student is improving his math grades overall, as he received a 16/20 on his last exam which covered topics he was initially struggling with.

Tutoring review by Peter in Seminole, FL
The student and I discussed his test on the shells, washers, and disks test. We discussed how to practice timing in the future. He then began working through some of his homework problems. He had a strong grasp of approximating functions using slope fields, and I reviewed approximating functions using Euler's method with him. We then briefly reviewed u-substitution and previewed integration by parts. He got a head start on his homework for next week by working through 3 integration by parts problems: one of the form x*cos(x), one of the form x*exp(x), and one of the form x*ln(x). We discussed which substitutions work best. We have one more tutoring session before his test next Friday.

Today the student did his homework and we reviewed a bit of old material. We worked with two dimensional and three dimensional shapes, including finding angles, lengths, areas, and volumes. We worked with triangles and determining similarity. He was very strong in these topics. He seems very happy that his grades are up.

Tutoring review by Patricia in Seminole, FL
The student did a great job on her division facts today. We worked on some 3x2 and 3x3 multiplication. 3-digit by 3-digit still needs a little work and we will continue that at our next session. Her work on renaming then subtracting fractions is also improving. She got a perfect paper on her dividing fractions which required her to make improper fractions out of mixed numbers. She mentioned that they had not had math for several days at school but had taken a placement test on decimals and fractions. We will begin reviewing work on decimals next session. I let her try a couple of different online decimal games to see where she was at. Recognizing the decimal equivalent for fractions will also be reviewed.
