As a writer, I am passionate not only about the writing process, language, and the beauty of the written word, but also about spreading that passion to others. I am currently a graduate student in Eastern Oregon University's MFA program in creative writing; my specialty is creative nonfiction. In addition, I have a graduate certificate in Editing and Publishing and a BA in History from Florida State University. During my time as an undergraduate, I wrote an honors-in-the-major thesis on Confederate soldiers and their wives in Florida during the Civil War, so I am very familiar with incorporating research into my writing. Also, I possess a background in scholarly editing and online tutoring. My tutoring approach is to engage the student with the material and the writing process by using the Socratic method and the student's interests. While writing and literature are the two main areas I tutor, I am also interested in film (especially Wes Anderson movies), music, and psychology.

I graduated from the University of South Florida with a BA in Psychology. Aside from my love of psychology, I am also a lover of writing and literature. I have taken many writing and literature courses that not only fortified my passion for the English language but also inspired me to want to help others who may see English and literature as subjects of anxiety rather than subjects of enjoyment. In high school, I was a volunteer tutor in the Writing Center where I would help students with their English assignments, and throughout college, I participated in writing workshops with my peers. I believe that with patience, dedication, and positive reinforcement, every student can reach their full potential. In my spare time, I enjoy visiting nature parks, going to art museums, and playing guitar.

I am a recently retired physician with abundant experience teaching before and after my career in medicine.I taught pre-college students for 12 years and earned my MS in education before leaving for medical school. My concentration was in middle school and high school math and science. Later, as I prepared to leave medicine, I returned to my love for teaching as adjunct professor of Anatomy/Physiology and Microbiology at St Petersburg College helping students achieve their ambition of entering medical school by working with them in the lecture, lab, and one-on-one MCAT prep sessions.I hope to use the skills acquired from many levels of experience to bring you to the peak of your natural abilities and ace your tests whether they be classroom exams or standardized testsI try to teach in ways that involve creativity and fun.I don't look at this only as a tedious, by -the-book instructional lesson. I am a K-12 ESOL and 6-12 English certified teacher. I have worked with students for the past 8 years across different states and countries.I majored in Japanese at Dartmouth College with a minor in Spanish. I really love languages! I went on to get my Master's in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at SUNY Albany.I am passionate about all learning, which is why my tutoring range is broad. My expertise happens to lie in English and ESL and anything associated with these subjects (writing, grammar, etc). I also love tutoring in my other languages like low level Spanish and Japanese.I've worked with all ages and find that each one has their own unique strengths that appeal to me as a teacher.I love working closely with students as I can adjust my teaching to fit their needs and interests. My philosophy on teaching is that you will learn a lot more if you have an element of fun or a game involved. I rarely advocate for rote memorization and prefer to focus on finding innovate ways to teach topics.
