Tutoring review by Alexander in Norwood, PA
Today the student and I first set a game plan for her regular Spanish immersion assignment and submitted it to her teacher. She is required to partake in several regular activities that would build her Spanish language skills, be they conversation, reading, and/or media consumption. We've agreed upon reading one Spanish-language magazine article per week, watching a half hour of Spanish-language television per week, and a weekly hour of conversation. She also finished and submitted her physics lab assignment. We then discussed the semester's first major geometry assessment, which consisted of creating a map on a coordinate plane and using it to solve problems related to line slope and triangle/quadrilateral definitions.

Today the student and I covered a small array of topics during our first meeting. We discussed inequalities - both algebra and number based - and statistical frequency tables. This also led into a thorough discussion involving direct proportions. He understood all of the material we went over, but he has a major issue with timing. Next time I will demonstrate mathematical strategies that can improve his speed and accuracy. His last test was a 44 due primarily to this timing issue.

During this session, we continued working on reading and interpreting data with different graphs. We then went back and reviewed the graphs that we talked about on Monday and talked about probability. She understood all of this very well. We then moved on and talked very briefly about introductory geometry, including definitions of lines, line segments, and rays. She had no trouble with these concepts either.

The student was expecting to take a test on chapter 2 in her class. We covered combining like terms, the additive and multiplicative properties of identity, the commutative and associative properties of addition and multiplication, and the distributive property. I brought additional sheets on solving one and two step equations. She also completed a homework assignment which I checked. She is doing a wonderful job.
