I am a neuroscience PhD graduate student at Northwestern university. I obtained my B.A. degree from Bryn Mawr College in Biology and Computer Science. I have a passion for education and firmly believe that education can change lives and provide the upward social mobility. I love interacting with students and building connections with them on a personal level. I prefer to teach students the learning method and thinking process, rather than just the answer. I am good at guiding students and letting them come up with the answer by themselves. In college, I am a TA for a Calculus 1 class, helping students understand difficult concepts and prepare for tests. Last summer, I traveled back to China and tutored math for standardized testing such as the SAT Subject Math and AP Calculus. Helping struggling students achieve high scores in standardized testing has been one of the most rewarding experiences - it boosts students' confidence and at the same time gives them the desire to learn more and tackle harder problems.Chinese is my native language. As a Chinese tutor, I enjoy helping students not only achieve desirable scores in standardized testing, but also use the language to communicate. I believe the key to learning a new language is to practice, practice, and practice. I love seeing my students gain confidence in speaking this beautiful language.

I am currently a sophomore at Bryn Mawr College. In the 8th grade, due to my exceptional performance in my advanced math class, I was offered the opportunity to tutor for extra credit. Since then, I have enjoyed tutoring and teaching others in a variety of subjects in grade levels PreK-11th for volunteer work and in paid settings. In high school, I took advantage of tutoring opportunities through my membership in Math, English, and National Honor Societies, and National Beta Club. I am working towards a Bachelors degree in Political Science and am also studying Middle Eastern Studies. While I hope to eventually pursue a Juris Doctris, education is a passion I would like to stay involved in throughout my career. I have worked with students of all ages inside and outside of school settings. I interned at the Fairmount Water Works where I assisted in an educational capacity. I tutor in Math, Social Studies, and Social Sciences. For a complete list, check out my subject list below. My favorite subject to tutor is math as there are many different ways I can explore with my students as to how to approach the problem in a way that makes sense to them. Math, especially, requires a lot of patience and it's incredibly rewarding to watch a student become proficient in a skill set they once thought impossible. My teaching philosophy and tutoring style emphasize that students learn in a variety of ways and one must first recognize where each individual student is coming from in terms of learning style and resources before attempting to address the academia. Outside of academia, I am very passionate about acting and social justice. Both of these interests, I believe, help me greatly in connecting with my students and supporting their learning. I have clearances available at your request. I was accepted to such prestigious institutions as NYU and the University of Richmond among others. I hold several leadership positions in my school community including president of pre-law society and Access Services coordinator. I look forward to working with your child!

I graduated magna cum laude with departmental honors from Bryn Mawr College in 2012 with a BA in English and a minor in psychology, as well several premedical requirements. I have been tutoring extensively since 2008 and was a staff writing tutor at Bryn Mawr during my collegiate career. As far as writing goes, I have tutored everything from college entrance essays to senior physics theses to applications for Rhodes and Fulbright scholarships. I have worked with both domestic and international students, and consider myself particularly adept at assisting ESL writers. In addition to Writing, I tutor in English, Grammar and Literature. Whether you are having difficulty with mechanics or are gearing up for an AP, SAT II or other standardized examination in English, I am willing and able to help, as I have taken virtually every test and have mastered English grammar.I also tutor for AP and SAT II examinations in General Chemistry and Biology, as well as for the corresponding introductory college courses for those subjects. If you're struggling with the algebra that's so often involved in solving chemistry problems (or if you're struggling with algebra I in general), I tutor for that as well. Finally, should you be preparing for the ACT, I provide tutoring services in all subject areas of that test (including Writing) and scored in the 98th percentile of test-takers as a senior in high school.I know how difficult and stressful preparing for standardized tests, exams, and papers can be, and I hope that my background as a seasoned tutor combined with my knowledge of the subjects and tests that I completed not so long ago will support my students as they move forward.

I take a holistic approach to teaching, considering the psychology behind academic success. I listen closely to students with a spirit of non-judgement and empathy to create a safe space that allows them to openly express the challenges they are facing with their academic work. I havefound that treating students with kindness, empathy and respect can transcend barriers to learning. I aim to empower my students and to create an optimal learning environment that helps students get inspired and stay engaged.I articulate and remind my students that I am invested in their success and well-being, in addition to fostering learning and intellectual development. I don't take a one size fits all approach. I teach students from all walks of life, ranging from young adults to adults in their 60s who have had successful careers and have returned to the university in their later years. Some of my students work full-time and may have children and/elders to care for at home. This kindof diverse student population requires flexibility. I meet students where they are to promote learning. The goals of my teaching include helping students: 1. understand, 2. reflect on, and 3. articulate key concepts. I evaluate student progress based on these three learning outcomes. I ask myselfthe question, did learning take place? Another key goal of my approach is teaching students how to bring greater clarity to their writing. Though it tends to send students back to the drawing board, so to speak, they are oftengrateful for what they learn and how it can serve their lives and chosen careers.

I graduated from Brandeis University with degrees in Classical Studies and Anthropology in 2012, and just received a master's degree in Archaeology from Bryn Mawr College. While in school, I have worked on numerous team projects as well as with younger students just beginning their studies. I spent this past summer working with high school students as a resident counselor at Johns Hopkins University. In the fall, I plan on working in classrooms in the Philadelphia area. I have experience across the humanities, and have a particular love for history. I also understand the importance of preparing for standardized tests, and have found the same critical reading and writing skills needed to score well on them to be invaluable as my education has progressed.I look forward to working with and helping you in any way that I can.

I was graduated from Bryn Mawr College in May 2020 with a dual Bachelor's degree in French and History. I have been tutoring and teaching students from elementary to college age in French and English for nearly seven years. I have worked as a private tutor for American students, as well as French students when I studied abroad in Strasbourg, France for a semester. I also worked as a French teaching assistant for three years while in college.I especially like helping students learn French. I like to reinforce what they've learned by putting it into practice, whether through worksheets or mock conversations. I also often supplement lessons by introducing them to aspects of literature, videos, and history with which they can practice what they've learned while also learning about francophone culture.

I am a native Spanish speaker with 4+ years of tutoring experience. Since my freshman year of college, I tutored peers from all grade levels who struggled with the acquisition of Spanish as a second language and help them become proficient in their communication in a foreign language. I held various positions within Bryn Mawr College's tutoring program that allowed me to envision the tutoring experience from various points of view. As the Departmental Liaison Chair, I provided more resources for tutors, fostered a positive relationship with the professors whose subjects we tutored, met their needs, and shared input from professors with the Academic Support and Learning Specialist. As Head Tutor for languages, I hired tutors, coordinated their schedules, and mediated conflicts. As a bilingual tutor, I am very patient and empathetic when teaching a new language. I have a growth mindset. Instead of saying to myself I'm not good at something, I ask myself what am I missing. If something is hard, I tell myself it will take time and effort. These principles help me improve as a tutor and guide students to take success into their own hands. I use all the resources I have available and do everything I can to find new ones to develop effective tutoring and study strategies.I scored high on this SAT Spanish Subject Test and have great understanding of the College Board's multiple-choice question. I earned a high score (5) on the AP Spanish Literature exam. My critical thinking skills and mastery of the Spanish language helped me structure my responses on the essay portion of the exam. I also understand the College Board's multiple-choice question.
