While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Economics (particularly microeconomics), Political Science, History, and Math. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for Standardized Tests like the GRE, I have seen the most success assisting students in understanding the logic of these exams, how they have been constructed, and what the best approach for leveraging that knowledge is. I have a deep commitment to education. Education is necessary not just for establishing employable skills, but more importantly to create an informed population. In my spare time, I enjoy blacksmithing and knifemaking, playing my drums and guitar, listening to a wide array of music, and spending as much time as possible with my family.

With this belief though I recognize that each student learns differently, I tailor my tutoring and teaching styles to each student based upon their strengths and weaknesses. I think it is important to get to know my students, what they enjoy and what they struggle with, and use this knowledge to help them find the easiest and most enjoyable route to improving their knowledge in the desired subject areas. I believe learning should be fun and engaging so no matter the subject or topic I work hard to make sure the lessons are relevant to the students interests and goals. In my spare time, I enjoy reading a variety of genres, yoga, running, and playing board games! I believe it is a duty for those who have the privilege to receive an education to give back to others within their community, so I find great fulfillment in participating in volunteer work and outreach within my community.

I currently hold a Master's Degree in Education, Child Psychology, and a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Psychology with a Teacher Education Minor. It is my passion to not only tutor students, but to mentor them to be their best selves both inside and outside of the classroom. I will be graduating in May of 2022 and am currently going through the rigorous and competitive matching process to obtain a pre-doctoral internship through the American Psychological Association (APA). Upon graduation, I plan to obtain licensure to become a licensed psychologist and work as a tenure-track professor at a university.I love to tutor students in research, psychology, writing which is my specialty and reading. However, I believe that I can help a student achieve their goals across all subject areas. I have learned various techniques through my Ph.D. program, as my specialty of school psychology focuses on helping students obtain success both inside and outside of the classroom, both educationally, socially, and emotionally. Overall, with being in college for almost ten years, I know what hard work and dedication can bring. I know that every student is unique and learns differently, so I work to shape my tutoring sessions around how that student learns best.
I love teaching. Moving a student toward their goal is most rewarding, as is discovering the tools to motivate the student. Giving those tools of learning to a student is exciting for all.My teaching spans middle school through technical college.English, Reading, and Writing are courses with which I have taught. I obtained my bachelors degree Radford College in Virginia and my masters degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.Born in Pennsylvania, I have traveled and lived in a number of states and just recently returned to the Pittsburgh area:I love animals in general. My dog, Alexander the Great, aminiature doxie, has the spotlight now. We enjoy traveling around to all of the great dog parks available in this great city.I love sports. I'm a PhD candidate studying Clinical Psychology. Before that I completed a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling at New York University and a B.A. in Sociology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. I have graded hundreds of term papers over the years, and have led workshops focusing on academic writing. I care about my students' success and utilize my training in counseling psychology in the service of understanding each individual's needs and strengths. My areas of expertize are in:(1) Teaching students how to learn: Studying and learning should be challenging, meaningful, and empowering. Learning should not meaningless and boring. Although many of us have spent several years studying, rarely are we taught how to learn. I offer my clients strategies and approaches to learning that emphasize efficiency, balance, and self-care. I also work with clients to address the blocks that get in the way of a healthy, productive, and meaningful approach to learning. Specifically, I work with my clients to manage test-anxiety, and to approach their studies and academic challenges in a focused and grounded way.(2): Writing skills: Teaching an approach to writing that balances academic formality with creative self-expression and critical thinking.(3): Reading/Critical Thinking skills: I teach reading and critical reasoning skills through focusing on rapid vocabulary acquisition and critical thinking. My approach is evidence-based and draws on 'spaced-repetition' learning methods to facilitate rapid gains in vocabulary.

I believe it is important to respect each student's uniqueness. Helping students grow academically and seeing their confidence levels increase in their learning environments are important goals for me. I enjoy tutoring a variety of subjects including basic reading skills and specific elementary math skills and others as needed. I love teaching reading to all ages and seeing skill development, especially in comprehension. One of my first published works focused on classroom ideas from my first hand experience. I also co-authored a book about using sports statics in basic elementary math. The idea was born from a student I tutored many years ago.

I have also received teaching certifications in the states of New York and Pennsylvania. Since attaining my degrees, licenses, and certifications, I have taught many grade levels that consisted of an array of students from different cultures, races, creeds, and nationalities. In my opinion, the most rewarding part of teaching and tutoring is watching students become enlightened in a variety of content areas that foster academic growth and creativity. I have been tutoring for about seven years now. I love to give each student one-on-one attention. That is why I enjoy tutoring. I believe the more attention a student gets, the more the student is able to learn and retain, which ultimately leads to academic success.
I am currently a student at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where I am working towards a degree in Biochemistry and Mathematics. I currently have my mathematics minor and am starting a research position in a biochemistry lab. For the past three years, I have been involved with the tutoring of my peers in many areas such as general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and a variety of math courses. During this time I have been guided by the philosophy that learning is best accomplished in an atmosphere where knowledge is an open dialogue. Through my experience tutoring here at Duquesne, I have found that the most productive, thought provoking, and genuinely enjoyable times studying have been those where an open dialogue or conversation has led to the systematic understanding and solving of a problem. With this in mind, the thing I stress the most in my teaching is that being open to different perspectives and expressing your thoughts is key in opening the door to a deeper understanding in any area of study or life.I am always up for a good conversation, especially about T.V shows (Buffy the Vampire Slayer anyone!?) and music ( I am a huge Indie music fan). In my free time I love to play guitar, go out to eat, ski, and hang out with my friends.

I am deeply committed to the education and well-being of students, and bring a high level of patience and acknowledgment of the intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of all students. As a mental health therapist I have a unique perspective to offer learners in the field of psychology and counseling, one which both informs and brings to life the concepts of the discipline. The clinical experience I have gained contributes to my work as an educator with a pointed focus on incorporating student wellness and education achievement, as well as augment student's learning
My belief is that all students of all levels and types are capable of learning. It is just a matter of putting in the effort and taking the correct approach. In some cases it is a matter of putting together a series of small victories and gains before reaching the ultimate goal, but all students can get there!
I have been both a voice teacher and music therapist since 1980, and believe that singing is healthy for us emotionally, physically, and spiritually! I have a PhD in Music Education/Therapy, an MA in Vocal Performance, and have taught students at all levels, from beginners to graduate university vocal majors. My teaching credo is that anyone can benefit from singing. People may think they cannot sing because others have told them that. In most cases, by working on students' listening, musical, or motor skills, they can find their natural voice! I can also teach music theory, music history, music fundamentals, world music, and music and wellness.Although my academic achievements are in music, my Jewish faith and studies are equally as essential to me, and I am glad to share my knowledge of Judaism and Biblical Hebrew with you.

Pursuing a Grad Degree in Biomedical Engineering following an undergrad degree in the same field, am looking to build new ways to interface technology with our humanity and society! As such, I am well versed in a breadth of STEM fields, and have plenty of experience teaching them as well. Since my interests are in research, I stay away with dead-end "memorize this equation" methods taught in schools, since to reach any higher level of understanding, one needs basic understanding first. I believe this to be critical, especially if you are pursuing any sort of higher end programming in your future.
