I am an undergraduate student at Temple University. I am currently working toward a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and am particularly interested in automotive engineering. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, my favorites are general physics and algebra. In helping students prepare for the ACT, I am particularlly helpful in the math and science portions of the exams. I personally stress the foundations of any subject, due to the confusion in basic building blocks of knowledge compounding at higher levels. My hobbies and interests include lifting weights, watching football and learning about new technology in my free time.

I graduated from Temple University with a BA in Communications and Columbia University with an Ed.M. in Art and Art Education. I believe that all children and youth have the ability to learn and that their potential emerges from thoughtful pedagogical practices. Cultivating a student-centered approach, and understanding multiple intelligences as the various cognitive and creative modes of how students think and learn, allow academic goals and personal development to flourish. By this, students are led on the path to mastery and achievement, and the desire to be life-long learners.
I am foremost a lifelong learner. I have a degree in Spanish from Temple University, where I studied a broad survey of Spanish and Latin American literature, Spanish orthography and grammar as well as formal Academic writing. I recently returned from Chile in South America where I was teaching English in a public middle school. While there I was responsible for creating and implementing a speaking and listening curriculum.I have also done some work in Interpretation and Translation and am currently pursuing more work as an interpreter. I am a big fan of travel, multiculturalism, yoga, reading and the Spanish language! I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for language with others and helping people view the world through the lens of a different language and culture. I consider myself especially well-suited to helping to teach speaking and reading comprehension.
My mission is to help students learn ways they can nurture themselves in areas they desire tutoring assistance and ultimately build the self confidence and self-efficacy to teach themselves. I have earned a Bachelor's Degree in music, studying bassoon performance and music theory. The journey to reaching there at first involved an attempt at a degree program in the science field, a gap year filled with self-discovery, and many bumps in the road. Coming from a Vietnamese immigrant, low-income family, I grew up learning how to make the most with what I have and how to strive to be better each day. I have always had a passion for helping others be excellent. I have tutored subjects from algebra to English writing to music theory, and it is a process I truly enjoy. Through tutoring sessions tailored to a holistic approach of students' abilities, my hopes are that they will leave sessions knowing they deserve the absolute best for themselves, and that they have the internal grit and drive to achieve their goals. My desire is for my students to leave sessions with me feeling comfortable with who they are, knowing I am an available, supportive resource at all times and feeling ready to take on whatever challenges they face. My vision for tutoring at Varsity Tutors burns with that same enthusiasm.

I am a research scientist turned educator, who is certified to teach in Florida (Professional Educator Certification for Biology 6-12). I have a Masters in Biology from San Francisco State University and have successfully published my biodiversity research in an international science journal. I would enjoy tutoring biology and other middle and high school sciences because I want to encourage and inspire students to pursue science as a career. I love interacting with and building relationships with students, watching them grow, analyze and think critically about the natural world.I have taught college Introductory Biology for 2.5 years part-time at San Francisco State University, 1 year full-time in high school Biology and AP Biology, and a year teaching biology, chemistry, and environmental science. I also designed and taught a hands-on high school specialty course ''Glorious Design of Marine Invertebrates'' during January Term at Fremont Christian School.I have AP Biology and Biology resources available to teach both subjects and tons of science experience to integrate and share in my lessons. The key to success is practice through writing, verbalizing the content, and teaching others. Application of knowledge is more important than mere regurgitation/memorization of information. I strive to get my students to think on a higher cognitive level. My tutoring style is geared towards getting my students to explain what they know and apply what they know through specific questioning. Teaching is a dialogue, not me lecturing.Outside of teaching and tutoring, I enjoy scrapbooking, birdwatching, Scuba diving, singing, research, and participating in my church.
I grew up in a military family that was forced to relocate every few years, often internationally. As the result I became fluent in Russian, English, Spanish and proficient in French before I turned 18. As a freshman in college (2009), while studying International Studies, one of my classmates asked if I would help her prepare for the test in Advanced Placement Spanish and Literature. I agreed to help and therefore held my first tutoring session, and she ended up acing the test. This is when I found out I had a knack for teaching. My classmate was so happy with her results that she told her friends about it. Word of mouth got around, resulting in more and more students approaching me for help in foreign languages and social sciences, which started my career as a tutor. I began tutoring students in subjects like Spanish, Russian, ESL, as well as Psychology, Political Science, Criminal Justice and International Relations and undergraduate level Criminal law. Because I have been a student myself; I like to believe that I have an easy time relating to my clients and recognizing their educational needs. I find it extremely important that my students have fun during lessons, therefore I try to cater my lesson plans according to each student's individual learning style. I have a great deal of passion for education and the times when I notice results in my students, it makes my job as an educator that much more meaningful and fulfilling. I sincerely love what I do for a living, and I use my life and tutoring experiences to improve as a person and as an educator. I feel honored to be a part of Varsity Tutors, helping students achieve their educational and personal goals in life, therefore at the end of the day i go to bed knowing that i have done something meaningful and positive that day, that I have helped another person get ahead, and to me that feeling is priceless.
Over the last few years I have had the pleasure of tutoring some of the most athletically talented students at Temple University. The best part of the job has always been the teammate like relationship we form when setting academic goals together and then reaching them for the student using tools tailored to the student's study style and needs.
