Hello! My name is Eshan, and I'm a college freshman interested in Artificial Intelligence. When I started high school, I thought I was perpetually stuck at being a mediocre mathematician. I struggled a lot in my Algebra 2 class, teaching me that math is a subject which constantly tests your resilience and determination. My mission is to help other students tackle new and intimidating concepts. After 300+ hours of Mathnasium tutoring, I'm ready to help my students discover their latent strengths!

Throughout my education, I always excelled at test taking and standardized exams (SAT/SAT subject tests, AP exams, competition math). I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor's of Science in Chemical Engineering and went on to work in scientific computing. I want to utilize my spare time during this difficult period to pass on my experience to students looking to improve themselves, whether it be training them to become experts in the topics they're struggling with or helping them transition their understanding into exam results. The courses were in the fields of finance, statistics, management, computer science and mathematics. I was also the Math Specialist at Albertus Magnus College within the Academic Development Center. In this capacity, I provided one-on-one help to students and administered mathematics competency examinations to incoming freshmen. I have also taught spreadsheet, word processing and database fundamentals at non-degree technical schools such as Connecticut Business Institute and Branford Hall. I have always enjoyed helping students and tutored graduate courses while in graduate school. Math and its applications (e.g., finance, economics and statistics) comprise my favorite subjects. I believe that positive reinforcement and goal setting are critical to student success. Building upon strengths and proactively addressing weaknesses in a collaborative way help to build students' confidence and self-esteem.

I am a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a Master's of Entertainment Technology. All of these courses, with the exception of logic, required students to write essays. A substantial portion of my time was dedicated to helping students improve their academic writing. This experience taught me the most common problems students encounter in academic writing including lack of clarity, redundancy, the inability to structure an argument, and the most common spelling and grammar mistakes. It also forced me to develop ways of getting students to identify and correct these errors. This involved spending a lot of individual time with students and helping them through the revision process. The most important aspect of this was getting them to see that writing is a process. This understanding generally made them more patient and open to feedback.Philosophy and logic are both exceptionally abstract subjects. Teaching them to undergraduates requires patience and the ability to explain things as simply as possible. It is also important to recognize the signs of confusion. Students do not always tell you when they are confused (and sometimes they themselves do not think they are confused), and so it is vital to maintain interaction with students and to continually check for understanding. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of teaching, and I always conveyed my enthusiasm for the subject and the learning process. This is vital to maintain students' motivation and to keep their attention. For my efforts, I was nominated by my students for the Graduate Student Teaching Award at Penn.Since that time, I have continued teaching as a private tutor in English, Writing, Italian, and Philosophy. I am a recently retired civil engineer. For 34 -1/2 years, I worked as a civilian for the Department of the Air Force. My last position was as the Deputy Base Civil Engineer at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, AZ. I am 57 years-old and originally from the Pittsburgh, PA area. I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and Engineering and Public Policy. Upon graduation, I began working for the AF at Langley AFB in southeastern Virgina, staying there for nearly 28 years before recently finishing my career in Tucson, AZ. Tutoring in math and science has always been a passion of mine. I am a good communicator and have a knack for knowing how to explain a concept based on the student's understanding and preferred style of learning. I believe strongly that problem solving builds knowledge. This included working as a Teacher's Assistant for university courses, mentoring at educational events for high school students, and seminars in making complex information more approachable. I am a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University. My tutoring experience has mainly revolved around teaching second-graders reading and arithmetic, but I have some experience with higher-level subjects as well.
