As an opera singer, I am constantly learning. I work every day to refine my craft. But, in order to do that, I had to discover my best learning method. During my years at Carnegie Mellon University, where I graduated with honors with a bachelors in English and a bachelors in Music, I worked as an after school tutor in the Pittsburgh area, helping students with difficult subjects. I discovered that it was less the student's inability to learn but rather the way a subject was presented. I continued my education at Manhattan School of Music, receiving my masters in Music. In my experience, every student has the ability to learn a subject, it is only a matter of discovering which learning method works best for them.

I graduated the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Politics & Philosophy, and I moved to Cleveland to teach. I've spent the last three years in classrooms with the last year dedicated to subbing and working with different types of students and in different subjects. Most of my experience comes in teaching Reading and Writing, and I have helped students of all ages improve both their real life skills in those subject areas and their test scores. I decided to take two years off and work at a non profit aimed to help underrepresented students get access to opportunities and resources not readily available in their community. There I had a once in a lifetime opportunity to contribute and give back to the Lancaster community by creating my own 12-week engineering and coding course for the scholars in the program. Since graduating, he has played keys around Pittsburgh with the band Little Gunpowder and recorded their album Prom with them. He loves classical music, jazz and rock and roll. Some of his favorite artists are Beethoven, The Beatles and Jacob Collier. I recently graduated Carnegie Mellon University with a B.S. in Economics and Statistics with University Honors. Since graduation, I have been working as a consultant focusing on analytics - using Economic theory and Statistical methods to advise clients. You wouldn't know by looking at my transcripts but I know what it's like to struggle with math. Even though I was a straight-A student, school never came easy to me. Lectures always seemed to move too quickly and were hard to understand. I asked multiple questions during class that seemed silly or easy to other students. I went to nearly every office hours available and wondered if some professors may have moved them to avoid me! With time, effort, and the help of many people, I succeeded. This experience taught me two things. One was what made math hard and how to learn effectively. The other was that everyone has the potential to learn and feel comfortable with math.I was able to put these lessons into practice as a math tutor and grader at Carnegie Mellon University, where I attained my bachelor's in mathematical science. Although some students were future engineers and scientists already quite proficient at math, others were studying the humanities or fine arts. Not all students had the same background through their prior coursework or in high school. I quickly recognized that students struggle with topics in different ways and learned to identify where they needed help most.Finally, after college I further developed my ability to explain difficult concepts as a corporate actuary. I was often required to communicate complex concepts to all types of professionals, from sales and marketing to operations and legal. I supervised and trained new employees, many of whom were new to our processes. All these experiences often required a lot of patience and good listening. However, seeing people get to the "light bulb moment" was very gratifying. It made me realize how much I enjoy helping others gain the same understanding of something as me. I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 2016. Since then, I have been a process engineer at a major oil and gas company in the Houston, TX area. As a chemical engineer, I have extensive experience with developing heat/material balances, troubleshooting and optimizing heat and mass transfer equipment, and using process simulation software.Outside of chemical engineering-specific areas, I am able to tutor in most math, chemistry, and physics subjects at levels from middle school through college. I can also provide tutoring in some SAT and SAT 2 subject tests. My favorite subject to tutor is math. I have loved math for as long as I can remember. To me, solving a math problem is like solving any other problem in life - you combine the information you are given, assumptions you can make, and your expertise and prior knowledge to derive a conclusion. I appreciate being able to help students develop these types problem solving skills through math because of how applicable they are to non-math scenarios.
