Hello, my name is Zhuoru Jiang, I'm a second year graduate student at University of Pittsburgh, my major is foreign language education, and I'm also a Chinese teacher at Pittsburgh Chinese school. Nice to meet you, I'm glad to help you on learning.

Hi everyone, my name is Michael. I recently graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. My tutoring strengths are in Mathematics, Computers, and Sciences. I am enthusiastic about teaching and have a background in instructing students of all ages. The pace is no issue, and if you're behind in school, I am willing to spend as much time as necessary to get you up to speed. I am very flexible with scheduling. Please come to me with any questions or concerns you might have. I look forward to meeting you!
I am a senior accounting student at The University of Pittsburgh and will be graduating in April. I have most of my tutoring experience in Accounting and Mathematics. My favorite subject to tutor is Financial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, ACT math and Calculus. I have a very personable tutoring style as I believe that is most effective in learning. I enjoy listening to music, playing video games, fishing and hiking.
I am a seasoned educator with experience developing science curricula and teaching since 2006. Having cultivated a spectrum of students (from primary learners to adults), I now bring my educational experiences to flight instruction.I am a graduate from the pro pilot flight training program at CCBC and hold commercial, instrument, and CFII certifications. As a FAA Certified Flight Instructor (and check instructor for a part 141 flight school), I train new and experienced aviators how to fly in a variety of make and model fixed wing aircraft. I teach advanced aerodynamics, performance, weight & balance, systems, navigation, airspace, weather theory, human factors, instrument procedures. and aviation regulations while helping students earn their private, commercial, and instrument rating certificates.
My parents taught me the value and importance of having a good education. I have learned from experience why that was important to them. It wasn't always easy but making a serious effort and spending quality time on my academic work, often with someone who understood better than I did, made me a better student. It also made me more successful in my life and in my career. For more than 20 years I have tutored, counseled and mentored middle school and high school students and I enjoy spending time with them. In many ways, they have tutored, counseled and mentored me as well. My formal, post-secondary education came from the US Naval Academy, Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh in the fields of English, Math, Counseling, Psychology and Administration. I learned a lot about myself and about life from these educational experiences. No one can ever take away from you what you truly know and understand. Everyone can learn.Among my many interests are sports, fitness, all aspects of music, theater, concerts, movies and gardening.
I first began tutoring unofficially my senior year in high school after my physics teacher asked me to help some of his freshman students. It became an incredibly rewarding experience, for these students that I stuck with for nearly the entire school year were able to boost their grade up and feel more confident in their work. Some of my hobbies include playing tennis, hiking, and watching reruns of "Malcolm in the Middle" (my all-time favorite TV show).Currently, I'm a senior at the University of Pittsburgh double majoring in Neuroscience and Spanish and minoring in Chemistry.
I look forward to learning about you and helping you get through your reading, writing, public speaking, social studies, test-taking and organizational challenges. Let's make learning fun and enjoyable. Let me know your interests and we can supplement any reading that includes your hobbies. We can add some games, too. Just remember to bring your homework and due dates so I can help you stay on task and ahead of your assignments.I coordinated a tutoring program in CA for Hewlett-Packard and worked with first through 12th grade individually with shy kids, U.S. kids, and those from a different culture. In addition, I volunteered with Toastmasters Public Speaking for kids and will be a judge for mock trials for middle school. Last month, I learned about mock trials with high school students, and it was very interesting.I have a Masters in Educational Technology from University of Pittsburgh in PA, undergraduate degree in psychology and sociology from Duquesne University, and advanced paralegal certificate from Duquesne University. I taught K-12 in San Diego and also wrote test questions for Measurement, an educational testing company. I also taught at Duke, as well as University of Phoenix online. I look forward to meeting you!
As a current student at the University of Pittsburgh pursuing premedical education, I am deeply passionate about helping students achieve their academic goals. Throughout my own educational journey, I have relied on the guidance and support of tutors to navigate challenging subjects. This firsthand experience has shown me the profound impact a dedicated tutor can have on a student's understanding and success. During high school, I worked with younger students to help them acclimate to the high school environment, providing freelance tutoring in various subjects. This experience honed my ability to connect with students and tailor my approach to their individual needs. I continue to offer tutoring services, specializing in EMT, NREMT course and test preparation, and a range of math topics from basic arithmetic to SAT-level material. My teaching philosophy centers on the belief that each student should have a say in their learning process. I strive to understand and adapt to the learning methods that each student is accustomed to, ensuring a supportive and effective tutoring experience. Rather than imposing my own methods, I act as a resource, guiding students in a way that complements their preferred learning styles. Outside of academia, I have a passion for tennis, having participated in tournaments across New Jersey. Additionally, I volunteer as an EMT, which not only enriches my practical knowledge but also reinforces my commitment to helping others. I am excited to bring my enthusiasm for learning and my adaptable teaching style to help students reach their full potential.
I am a recent graduate of a Masters in Biomedical Sciences program that heavily emphasized biochemistry, anatomy, and molecular biology. As an undergraduate, I double majored in natural sciences and psychology. During my education, I also conducted 3 years of psychology and psychiatry research and was recently published in a major scientific journal. In addition to this experience, I have been working for a private company to edit and proofread admissions essays and term papers for the past year. In that time I have edited dozens of essays, with maximum customer satisfaction ratings from each person who reviewed my work.
I graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Political Science from Thomas More College of Liberal Arts in New England. I am blessed to have done three semesters abroad, the last at the Jagiellonian Universitys School for Polish Language and Culture in Krakow, Poland where the high quality of teaching has been a great example for me in my own teaching. I volunteered for two years as a teachers assistant in an ESL class for adult immigrants. I love languages, especially our own rich English language. Shakespeare has a huge fan in me! As does Vergil; in college, I carried extra credits and after college had private tutoring session specifically because I wanted the opportunity to read The Aeneid in its original language. I am eager to work one on one with students, to evaluate their personal needs and address them, to help them to the joy of understanding and success.
My name is Trevor Octavio, I am 23 years old and will be attending my second year of medical school next fall. I am looking forward to tutoring students either online or in person. I understand that every student has unique learning styles and I seek to incorporate that style into our sessions. It is my goal for the student to reach proficiency in their subject and also enjoy the steps it takes to get there.
I have been working with children and teaching a variety of subjects and ages for about fifteen years. I became a certified K-12 French teacher after graduating from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and I recently got my Master of Education from the University of Pittsburgh. During my time at IUP I studied abroad in Nancy, France and completed an internship teaching English to elementary school French students. I have taught French ranging from introductory levels to CHS (college in high school) and have tutored French students of all ages in basic vocabulary, grammar, conversation, and more. While at Pitt, I worked on acquisition of language, including some course work and tutoring in English as a Second Language. In addition to French, I was a fifth grade teacher for three years, where I taught subjects such as math, history, geography, literature, language arts, spelling, and writing. I have worked with students on problem-solving and test-prep specifically in math and language arts.I love working one-on-one with students and discovering the individual differences that exist within each learner. I pride myself in treating my students with patience, professionalism, and most importantly, respect. I consider myself to be a lifelong learner and strive to pass my love of learning along to my students.
I'm passionate about helping students succeed in a way that works best for them. I believe in creating a relaxed, non-judgmental space where you can feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing at your own pace. No matter your learning style or needs, I'll adapt to find the approach that helps you understand the material and reach your goals.
I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh. I am majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Political Science, and I am working down the pre-med track. I have experience teaching, as I am currently a teaching assistant for General Chemistry at Pitt and I have also tutored with Kumon Learning in the past. The areas that I am most passionate about tutoring are SAT prep and college-level courses. This is because I know how stressful these two can be to students. My goal is to try and alleviate some of that stress and make you feel prepared and confident for taking the SAT and passing college courses with flying colors. My belief is that for a person to live a rich life, they should be constantly learning about something new. It helps keeps your mind sharp throughout life, and helps you appreciate the world around you. This is a belief that I try to stress to everyone around me, including my students. In terms of my tutoring style, I try to build a rigid lesson plan for my students that will prepare them, but at the same time, not overwhelm them. I have found that organization and having a plan are keys to success in education.
My name is Evan, but some people call me JEB. In 2017, I graduated from Pitt with degrees in both astronomy and English writing.Currently, I'm a Philadelphia-based writer primarily interested in covering science and data-driven stories, but I'll write about anything as long as it's interesting, important, or some combination of the two. Next year, I plan to be in a graduate program to become a high-school physics teacher.I have a passion for both physics and mathematics and love sharing that with anyone willing to listen.
Every student can learn and has the right to learning opportunities that engage them in worthwhile and cognitively demanding tasks. Through such experiences, students develop more than just content knowledge, they grow as thinkers and problems solvers. They grow confidence and a sense of agency.
I am a student at the University of Pittsburgh, graduating in May with a major in Neuroscience and minors in Chemistry and Spanish. I've been teaching and tutoring for a year and a half as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant in the Chemistry department, working with students one on one and in small groups in General and Organic Chemistry. As a pre-medical student and a Neuroscience major, I've taken extensive coursework in biology, physiology, physics and math, so I am qualified to tutor those subjects as well.In addition to my strong science background, I love reading, writing and learning about culture and language. I took four years of college level Spanish and I'm proficient in reading, writing, speaking and listening in Spanish, with a particular knack for explaining grammar and editing compositions. In my free time I like to ride the bike trails around Pittsburgh, explore the city's wonderful museums and libraries and cook delicious meals with my roommates.
I am passionate about helping students because I think that learning is important and that every student should have the opportunity to succeed. I personally loved going to school and learning and want to help other students love learning by finding approaches that work for them!I have mentored students in Middle School for the past 4 years through a local program. Through this program, I started to realize how much I enjoyed working with students to help them achieve their goals. I recently was chosen to help facilitate a local chapter of the Girls Who Code club and will be working with students from 6 - 12th grade to help to teach coding and foster an innovative mindset.I attended the University of Pittsburgh and hold a B.S. in Computer Science. I am currently working towards getting my Master's in Computer Science.I tutor for Math, Science, and Computer Science.I really enjoy helping students with Math. I personally have always loved Math but understand that not everyone feels that way! I like to help people also enjoy Math.My teaching/tutoring style relies on getting to know the student and incorporating their interests into the subject area (if possible). This helps to engage the student and make connections to things in which they are already interested.Outside of academia, I work full-time as a Software Developer and also assist my employer with corporate training for software products. I enjoy getting to spend time mentoring local middle schoolers and volunteering with non-profits in the area.
I received both my graduate and undergraduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. I have an M.B.A and Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology. I am also a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA AAMA) and CPR/AED/First Aid instructor. For over fifteen years I have instructed students in subjects to include medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, clinical and administrative procedures and pharmacology. I was a part of a task force that created test questions for the Certified Medical Assisting examination so I am familiar with the formatting used on standardized tests. During my tenure in a "big city" proprietary school I put my M.B.A. to use teaching courses in economics, sociology, and business communications. The students I have instructed ranged from those that were home schooled, GED recipients, attendees of traditional brick and mortar schools, and non-traditional adult students. Before this I worked at a top 10 hospital in the pathology department. I assisted with the processing of anatomical and surgical specimens. When I say anatomical specimens, I mean autopsies. Because of this, I have an extensive and firsthand knowledge of anatomy.I was recently asked to put my teaching philosophy into words and this is what I wrote:"No should ever leave my classroom feeling that they didn't learn anything, their time was wasted, or they didn't get their money's worth. In order to accomplish this, I will be organized, prepared and demonstrate competence in the subjects I teach, every day. To help students develop I will adapt lesson plans to their different learning styles and use lecture, audiovisual, and hands-on demonstrations to meet each student' needs."When I am not teaching I like to watch NCIS, Forensic Files, and Doctor Who (although I miss David Tennant and Matt Smith). I am waiting for The Walking Dead to return so my sons and I can take turns trying to scare each other when we walk the dog after watching an episode. Fires in the backyard and family game night round out my extracurricular activities.
Hello, my name is Vaibhav Sharma and I am a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. I majored in neuroscience and chemistry and while I was in college I spent my time volunteering at local hospitals and researching novel neuroscience techniques. I will attend medical school at Geisinger Commonwealth Medical College this fall. Having taken all of the science classes since high school, I know how daunting and hard science material might seem but if taken at a very fundamental level, it is much more logical and simpler than how many high school teachers or college professors make it seem. Thats how I approach tutoring my clients. I try to use practical examples on how the science principles come into play in the real world.
I have always had a passion for learning and teaching science, particularly biology, chemistry, and mathematics. My earliest mentoring experiences were during my time in Boy Scouts as I had the opportunity to teach younger scouts important skills as I earned the Eagle Scout Rank. After high school, I attended Saint Vincent College where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Certification in Biotechnology. In college, I was an Opportunity Program tutor for a high school student preparing for the AP Chemistry Exam. Regarding college students, I served as a note taker for the General Biology course, a tutor for the Cell Biology course, and a tutor for a Biochemistry course for graduate students. After college, I attended the University of Pittsburgh for graduate school and earned my PhD in Cellular and Molecular Pathology. During graduate school I was a mentor for a junior high school student in a summer program and helped her design and execute a research project examining a genetic knockout mouse model. I also served as a teaching assistant for first year graduate students in a Biomedical Sciences Intro course and first year medical students in a Histology course. Currently, I am a postdoctoral research fellow at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School where I am continuing to perform biomedical research. When I am not in the lab, you can find me exploring historical sites and hiking outdoors.
I want to ease the road to success for the many bright students that may have a bumpy start. It may take some time, but I know from experience that hard work definitely pays off in the end; nevertheless, it does not have to be as dull as it is made out to be. Learning can be efficient and interesting if done correctly, and I can help guide this path.
I graduated the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Politics & Philosophy, and I moved to Cleveland to teach. I've spent the last three years in classrooms with the last year dedicated to subbing and working with different types of students and in different subjects. Most of my experience comes in teaching Reading and Writing, and I have helped students of all ages improve both their real life skills in those subject areas and their test scores. I have also tutored kids who did not speak English to help them increase their speaking and writing skills. I can tutor math up to Algebra II, and I have experience teaching math in the classroom. Lastly, I can tutor in the Social Sciences, particularly AP Government and AP US History, as I majored in those subjects in college.I really enjoy tutoring test prep subjects, because the time spent applying for college is so exciting and stressful. It is very easy to create a goal and work toward it when a student already has their sights set on a particular college, and I love being a part of that process. I like to think of myself as a goal-oriented tutor, helping my client pick out the thing that he or she wants by the end of our sessions and driving toward it. I also believe in meeting my client where they are in their subject matter and helping them learn in their particular individual style. It does not matter how my client learns, whether it is verbal or visual or even kinesthetic--I try to accommodate and ensure that they know the material the way they will remember it best.Aside from teaching, my interests include music and cooking. I grew up listening to punk rock, and in the process, I learned to play guitar and drums. At this point though, I listen to just about everything including hip-hop, electronic music, country, and pop. I also enjoy cooking and learning to make cuisines from other cultures. Lately, I have been trying to master Lebanese food. Lastly, I like to travel. I have been all over the USA and Western Europe, and I have even made it to the Middle East.
I have a passion for learning and a joy in helping students to discover that math, science, history and literature are interesting and worth pursuing. My extensive experience tutoring math, science and standardized testing have prepared me for the role of connecting with students and encouraging that more natural instinct for acquiring and assimilating knowledge. I believe confidence in one's abilities is a fundamental tool for instilling interest and achieving success. My love of math and science, especially Calculus and Chemistry, has shown to be infectious and I love getting to share those subjects with students. My degree is a B.A. in Music from the University of Pittsburgh with a minor in electrical engineering. I have spent the past five years tutoring students from middle school to college aged.
I graduated from NYU School of Law with a J.D. and University of Pittsburgh with a B.A. in philosophy. Before law school I tutored the LSAT and law school admissions extensively one-on-one. Since graduation, I have worked on the in-house legal team of a major pharmaceutical company, and continued my passion for helping students beat the LSAT and achieve their law school dreams.I believe there is not a single best approach to learning the LSAT. Rather, students should follow a plan tailored to their strengths and weaknesses, and learning style.
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience and Sociology at the University of Pittsburgh on the pre-med track. I have always enjoyed teaching students, as I helped my two younger siblings with their schoolwork frequently growing up. I also have tutoring experience at a local tutoring agency teaching students aged 5-16 in math and reading, and I have learned how to effectively teach students at various ability levels and in different age groups through this experience. I am also a National Merit Finalist and Scholarship winner and an AP scholar, so I believe that I can provide helpful advice and tips for students who are navigating the difficult world of standardized testing. Through these experiences, I am confident that I can address your needs in subjects such as math, writing, and reading by working with you one-on-one and devising a plan to help you reach your goals. Outside of school, I love trying out new recipes, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying the outdoors!
I am a current second year dental student at the University of Pittsburgh, where I also graduated with my B.A. in Religious Studies in 2015. I am from the Pittsburgh area and graduated from Sewickley Academy in 2011. My tutoring experiences include mentoring with underprivileged Pittsburgh public school students and after-school tutoring for middle schoolers in the Mt. Lebanon area. I have also nannied for many years now and love working with kids! In my free time I enjoy cooking, practicing yoga, going to the movies, and spending time with friends and family.
My name is Vivek, and I'm currently a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in Neuroscience. My experiences in tutoring have come from working at a nearby center called "Perfect Tutors" and from helping classmates at my after school academic resource center.I really enjoy getting to know and helping kids learn. I've worked with kids from the age of 4 in summer camps up to high schoolers. Whether I'm teaching Math, Science, or Reading, the best part about my job is seeing when a kid understands a concept after struggling for so long.
I am an experienced and certified teacher, with over fifteen years of teaching experience, across all disciplines and student populations. My professional experiences, and conscientious attitude have enabled me to foster students' academic potential in various unique lessons, and techniques.Learning is fostered by creating the appropriate atmosphere.I try to create such an atmosphere, by helping students think out loud, reflect on experiences, identify problems, and develop solutions.I keep current with materials, and educational strategies, all of which help to promote learning in my students. On a more personal note, not only am I creative in my approach to teaching, I also create jewelry, which I sell on Etsy. I have raised three children, who have grown and flown, and I currently share my home with my two dogs, Murphy and Maggie.
As an English and SAT Prep teacher at an urban high school, I've worked with students ranging from a first-grade reading level to a college-level. My goal is always to bring all of these students to the same level so that they can have the same opportunity for success. Any student can learn when you give them a chance. My inclination for intense differentiation allows me to work with students of any ability and push them toward writing and reading fluency.
Hello, prospective students! I have made a life of teaching and studying. Among the subjects to which I have given the most attention are philosophy and history, each of which I have also taught at a college level. My courses have always been writing-intensive, honing my skills at guiding students in mastering their self-expression in English. I have also taught test preparation courses for the SAT, GRE, and LSAT. The most rewarding of all my teaching endeavors has been helping guide my son through his remote and online education. Now I want to put all of this to use for students here at Varsity Tutors. Any student can improve with the right personal care and hard work, and I am committed to providing the attention and support you need.
I am studying to become an Aerospace Engineer. I previously attended The University of Pittsburgh for Mechanical Engineering. I will attend The University of Colorado at Boulder for aerospace this upcoming fall.I am very knowledgeable in Math and Science. I will be more than happy to tutor in any subject listed on my profile.Other than academics, some of my hobbies include hockey, golf, music (particularly hip hop), and spending time at the observatory, to name a few. I am easily approachable, so feel free to contact me if you think I can assist you.
I am a graduate from the University of Pittsburgh, after receiving a bachelors degree in neuroscience in 2023 I started working as a research technician for a lab at Pitt. There I became the defacto manager and have taught many undergraduates lab techniques and the theory behind our research. I try to keep learning environments low stress and almost like a conmversation rather than a lesson. Now I am looking to move on to a PhD program in neuroscince as well as tutor in STEM subjects, mainly biology and chemistry.
As a two-time graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, I have had the chance to work for several amazing companies and live around the world. I have worked for several great companies like American Eagle, Ford and Disney. I've lived all over, from South Korea, to Southern California to New Jersey. Now back in the city of brotherly love, I work part-time as a marketer, run my own stationery and design business, and care for my young son. Taking care of my son has reawakened my desire to help people learn. While in graduate school and living in South Korea, I tutored students of all ages in grammar, reading comprehension and conversation. This was some of the most rewarding work I've done and I'm so glad to return to it. I think my my patience, creative approach, and ability to connect with students has made me a successful tutor and person. Also, I really enjoy reaching students on their level to help them improve and reach their goals, both academically and professionally.
I earned my Bachelor's of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh in English Writing and Political Science, with a minor in Italian Language and Literature. I earned my Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School, and I am currently practicing law in Massachusetts. Throughout my education, I have had the privilege of assisting friends and family as they worked through challenging academic subjects. I enjoy watching those I am helping grow and succeed as students and as people. My favorite subject has always been writing because I believe it is a fundamental building block to any successful career, both in school and out of school. I love helping people to realize that they have the ability to be a great writer with some practice, and I firmly believe that with the right approach, it's an accessible skill for all learners. Outside of work, I enjoy dancing with a local performance company, reading, knitting, and spending time with my two cats.
I believe that long term learning can be achieved by leveraging personal associations with learning key concepts/data points focused on time and place. By committing these time/place concepts/data to long term memory, we create a context (framework) upon which new concepts/data can more easily and efficiently be integrate and retained.
I'm a Cornell and Pitt graduate in engineering, passionate about making education, particularly mathematics, accessible and less intimidating. I've been tutoring for the past 7 years! I live by the quote: "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." - Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. Although education goes beyond tests and and exams, but I'm here to get you ready for those that you have to face now.
I'm just trying to help kids get better at math and science. Whether it be algebra or calculus, I feel it is my personal duty to help whoever needs it improve their grade or their test score. I've had tremendous success tutoring these subjects in the past, and I'm confident that I can have similar results here in the future.
I recently graduated from the University of Pittsburgh summa cum laude with a BS in Psychology. I have been tutoring with Varsity Tutors for over 5 years with over a hundred students. I'm excited to work with your student!
I recently moved to NYC from Pittsburgh, PA, where I have lived my whole life up to this point. I went through grade school, high school, and college all within one mile of each other (all on the same street). Currently, I spend most of my time wandering around the city, learning its ins and outs, as well as reading any book I can carry around town. Working with Varsity Tutors, I hope that I can help students to teach themselves and to find out what fascinates them most. Sometimes the ideas that interest a student most aren't taught in a classroom. In school, often I'd prefer to teach myself to play the guitar rather than listen to a lecture on the crusades, or read Othello cover to cover rather than a dry, context-less except in a textbook. What's important is to find the intersection where your interests and your academic obligations meet. When you can think about classroom material in terms of activities you'd pursue whether or not it appears on the syllabus, understanding emerges. I would like to help you find a different, individuated approach to learning.
