Tutoring review by Aria in Murrysville, PA
The student and I had a great first session. She was open and engaged throughout the entire session. I stressed the importance of asking questions whenever she had one. She was honest about things that she didn't understand (very helpful) and identified concepts that she better understands now than when she completed the assignment. We warmed up with multiplication flash cards and she did well with those. We will keep drilling 7's and 12's to make sure that those are as stable as the others. We discussed some topics that she finds challenging (e.g. combining like terms) so that we can continue to work on those. We also discussed her feelings about her class and teacher and how those play into her understanding of the material. We reviewed her chapter 3 test from 2/25 (score: 13/20) and re-did all the problems that she got incorrect. Most of the problems and concepts that we focused on were related to slope since that's what her test was on. Next time I would like to work with her on combining like terms and adding and subtracting negative numbers since these are challenges for her and are fundamentals of algebra. We closed with division flash cards.

Tutoring review by Fese in Murrysville, PA
We finished his final review packet and I tested him on topics that will be covered during the exam and reviewed strategies for each type of problems. During this review we covered topics in sine/cosine/tangent, radians-degrees, absolute value graphs and exponential growth. Once he did several practice problems, he was able to answer the problems correctly and should do well on his final. Overall it was a good session.

We went through the student's homework and covered linear regression and correlation. We went over the slope-intercept formula and how to calculate the slope and the y-intercept. We also went over the line of least squares and calculated the t statistic and p-value from r. Finally, we went over null and alternative hypotheses and interpreting our results conceptually.

The student did really well in this session as we mainly worked on her translation skills of a long passage written in Spanish. She is getting much stronger in her abilities though there is room for improvement. She is very smart and learns fast. She had questions that I answered.
