I recently moved to Phoenix from Ohio where I was born, raised, and attended school. I'm a graduate of the Ohio State University (and an avid Buckeyes fan) where I received a B.A. in Philosophy with a pair of minors in German Language and Music Composition. Upon graduating from OSU I worked for a local environmental nonprofit which focused on alternative fuels for the transportation industry. In the near future I hope to attend graduate school to study Public Policy and Affairs, with a goal of continuing my work in environmental sustainability.

As my degree displays, I'm very knowledgeable across a wide variety of subjects. I have extensive experience in subjects ranging from Mathematics and Physics to the humanities. My breadth across these subjects enables me to take a diverse approach to teaching that extends beyond knowledge of one individual subject area. My favorite high school courses were AP Calculus and AP Physics, and my favorite courses during undergrad were in Moral Philosophy/Ethics. While at OSU I worked as a Peer Tutor for the University, where I tutored mainly Mathematics ranging from Pre-Algebra to Calculus. I enjoy tutoring math the most; however, that may be due to the amount of time I've spent doing so. I would love the opportunity to tutor a student in less-frequently requested subjects like Philosophy!

My teaching philosophy is a mix of formal training and personal methods. I earned Level II certification from the Collegiate Reading and Learning Association (CLRA) while tutoring for OSU, which taught me the methods needed to effectively relay information to students. As a philosophy student I also utilize the Socratic method while tutoring, which focuses on asking students questions in order to get them to reach their answers. Throughout my experience tutoring I've found that engaging a student in dialogue about the question at hand is far more successful than doing all of the talking. There's no better way of ensuring that a student understands the material than getting them to put it in their own words!

Beyond my passion for learning and teaching I'm a huge sports fan who rarely misses an Ohio State football or basketball game. I also grew up a die-hard Cincinnati Reds fan, and I love engaging in discourse about every and any sport. I also play the saxophone and guitar, which I often use to unwind after a long day.
