In May, 2015, I graduate from Temple University with a BA in English, completing a degree program begun in 1968. Since I returned to Temple a year ago, I have maintained a straight-A average in all courses. Furthermore, I am honored to receive Temple's Florence Duckworth Award for excellence in scholarship and leadership in English studies. This past year at Temple has been one of the most rewarding and delightful years of my life.Since 2009 I have been a trained volunteer tutor in Adult Basic English (ABE) and English as a Second Language (ESL) sponsored by Delaware County Literacy Council (DCLC). For ABE I have helped adult students with low-level literacy learn to read and write. For ESL I have helped adult legal immigrants master the language of their adopted country, the USA. I love this work so much that I left a successful career in investment accounting in order to complete my degree and teach English to adults. As part of an internship at Temple I am currently teaching an ESL evening class of six students at DCLC until July, 2015.As one can tell from my years of study, I am grounded in the old-fashioned instruction of English grammar and composition. This contributes to my tutoring success because I understand the basics that support a platform of literacy: elements such as the ABCs, sensible but flexible grammar, coherent sentence structure and functional parts of speech. My recent studies at Temple provided the latest research and theory in rhetoric, linguistics and the newest forms of digital literacy. Moreover, my recent experiences in the classroom provided bonding with college-age people in a peer relationship. I connect with the younger generation in special ways that were unavailable to me a year ago. As a result of my experience, I'm quite comfortable in both worlds of the English language: essential fundamentals and the new digital age.My writing skills are strong, as my Duckworth award attests. My first love is American and English literature. I'm a voracious readerso much so that I haven't owned or watched TV in decades. After all, I figure, why watch TV if I can read a book instead?

Teaching has always been a passion and a goal of mine, as through my experiences I have found that it is both enjoyable and fulfilling. I received my BS in Engineering Science and Mechanics from the University of Tennessee, followed by my MS and PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Since then I have been blessed to follow my own path of research in functional neuroimaging (studying brains) while also having many opportunities to train and guide students along the way. I have experience teaching in a personal one-on-one setting as well as in a classroom setting. Courses I have taught include Biomedical Imaging, Introduction to Biomedical Engineering, and Human Factors Engineering. I have also worked with students from a variety of places and of different ages, ranging from elementary school to graduate students. Aside from my career, I am blessed to have two boys, which take up much of my time. I enjoy reading, swimming, cooking, and spending time with friends. I also teach Sunday school on a part-time basis at our church. I love new experiences, such as travel, and do my best to continue my own personal development and education whenever possible.

I am a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Applied Mathematics. I have enjoyed teaching Physics at the college level inspiring students to understand the concepts of dynamics, optics, electromagnetics, electrical circuits, and wave mechanics.

I am finishing up my first year at Princeton University, still undecided but leaning towards studying Sociology. I have experience working with pre-K students through adults in a variety of topics ranging from environmental education to conversational English practice. I spent a year in Indonesia working at a disability rights NGO and helping my adult coworkers as well as elementary school- and college-aged students develop English language skills. I am very passionate about educational equity, and want to assist all students in accessing strong educational resources. I am able to tutor a wide range of topics, from standardized test prep to English to elementary/middle school Math and more. I also play violin and can help students with music theory, composition and general violin skills as well.

I am a PhD student majoring in computational physics. I have solid background in theory training. At the same time, I am willing to help anyone with the subjects that I am familiar with! I have been serving as TAs for students that coming from very different ages and backgrounds.I strongly believe that no pains, no gains! Math is the most beautiful thing in the universe, and I want open everybody's eyes to this deep and wonderful truth. Math is something to be enjoyed. I believe that while knowing the formulas and procedures is important, memorizing mathematical formulas without appreciating the concepts is akin to memorizing the lines of a Shakespeare play without paying attention to the underlying prose.My strongest subjects are linear algebra and pre-calculus though I am proficient at tutoring all high school and college underclassmen mathematical subjects.I hope that my passion is contagious and that all of my students leave me not only having learned the material but understanding the beauty and wonderment of it all.

I enjoy helping students to understand not only WHAT the test is like, but HOW to take the test under timed conditions. I also hope to act as an accessible and reliable MENTOR to my students (and parents) who need college guidance or wish to practice for a college interview or review college essays. I am fluent in French, so for any kind of guidance for the classroom or SAT subject tests. I am ready to help anyone understand grammar, mechanics, conjugation, pronunciation, listening comprehension, oral skills and reading comprehension. I know a lot of FUN exercises too, such as mnemonic songs to help remember irregular verbs and conjugation. Since graduation, I have been expanding my legal resume by working at several law-firms in Philadelphia, PA, Washington, D.C., New Orleans, LA, and even Lyon, France.I look forward to meeting you during our first tutoring session!
