I received my Bachelor's Degree in French with a Minor in English as a Second Language from the University of Texas at San Antonio in May of 1993. I also have background in early childhood education, child development, language acquisition, and literacy. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and I have worked with students of all ages from high school to college. My favorite subject to teach is French because I love the continuity and flow of the language, as well as the diverse literature and rich history that surrounds the French culture. I had the fortunate opportunity to travel to France as a college graduation present where I immersed myself in the country's actual sites and sounds. I will never forget standing on the ancient "Le Pont Neuf" bridge looking at the iconic Tour Eiffel for the first time in the late afternoon sunlight with the Paris suburbs surrounding. Not to mention the fabulous food and all those decadent desserts! Besides my strong desire for traveling, music, and my longing for nature, I am a full time Mom to a vivacious 7 year old Son who definitely keeps me on the pavement running! I have an interactive approach to my tutoring style, encouraging consistent communication and feedback from my students to ensure they have the most rewarding and productive learning experience! Language is expressive and a wonderful way to promote creativity. I'm an English and creative writing major at Kenyon college, passionate about all things teaching and tutoring. During my formative years, I had excellent teachers and mentors. They were patient, kind, and knowledgeableand even when things got hard, they believed in my ability to learn and succeed. I am a Writing Center Consultant and Student Manager at my college's Writing Center. There, I work one-on-one with college students who are writing across the disciplines. In this role, I participated in a comprehensive training program where I studied both the theory and practice of composition. I have also served as a mentor, helping students with skills like time management, procrastination, and perfectionism. We don't write in a vacuum and I am experienced in working with the issues that intertwine with essay writing, as well.I was a Grader for the Graide Network, where I provided prioritized, student-focused feedback for student assignments in grades four through twelve. I received training in rubric calibration and in scoring for AP English and History exams. Additionally, I've taught creative writing workshops to local teenagers at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and worked one-on-one with students in creative writing clinics.Additionally, I am a 200 Hour Trained and Certified Yoga Teacher from the Kripalu School of Yoga and Health. I've taught over one hundred hours of private and group lessons in a variety of yoga styles including gentle, restorative, and vinyasa.

There's a certain kind of satisfaction that comes with teaching. Seeing someone get that "a-ha!" moment makes the process worthwhile...and it's addicting. I remember being a student taking a GRE prep course and frequently experiencing the "a-ha!" moment as a student. I knew then that giving that feeling was worth pursuing. Getting a good score on my GRE because of that training only solidified that sentiment.I believe everyone is best when challenged, though there is no simple way to do so. Everyone is their own riddle, with their own secret combination that will spring the lock into their psyche. I love to put that puzzle together to unlock greatness.Follow your passion - these words were spoken to me years ago by my high school English teacher. Looking back, I wish I had the enthusiasm then as a student that he had as a teacher. This is my way of paying it forward. Hopefully my passion for learning will be transmitted in the way I help those who seek it.

I am a graduate of The University of Utah. I received my Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies with a focus on Special Education. Since graduation, I have become a licensed teacher with the State of Utah and taught at a prestigious charter school within the Salt Lake Valley. As a teacher, I have the privilege of impacting children's lives in positive ways each day. I strive to ensure that each interaction I have with a student results in a love for life-long learning. I inspire each student to do their best so they can achieve their goals. I encourage increased responsibility so that they will become leaders in the community. I teach each student to be respectful of everyone and everything in order to create a safe learning environment. While I love teaching a broad range of subjects in Elementary Education, I am most passionate about Mathematics, Music, and History. In my spare time, I enjoy reading books and watching documentaries about world history. I also enjoy playing the piano and violin, and being in the outdoors.

As a kid, for my first few years of school I attended a bilingual Montessori program called Intercultura. There, I discovered the joy of organic learning. I eventually went on to study in more traditional schooling environments, including majoring in Economics at Washington University in St. Louis. However, I never forgot Intercultura and the freedom it allowed me to pursue my budding academic interests. I have tried to bring that same principle of student self-construction into my role as a tutor; whether I've been preparing collegians for the LSAT, or helping kindergarteners learn to read. I enjoy working with each student to find the best way for him/her to attack the subject material. I am able to tutor on a variety of subjects, but I'm especially passionate about test prep! I'm currently traveling around Europe and South America, before I start law school at the University of Texas this fall.

I graduated from the University of Georgia in August 2013, with a Bachelor of Arts in English. Since graduation, I have been employed as the head English teacher at a private center. I specialized in SAT and ACT verbal/writing, college application essays, general essay writing and editing, and Language Arts schoolwork. I also have experience teaching TOEFL, GED Prep, AP US and World History, and AP Psychology. I believe that education should be tailored to student needs and learning styles, and I try to get to know my students on a personal level. School can be extremely draining, especially for students who don't particularly enjoy academia, so I do my best to make the curriculum as easy to understand and enjoyable as possible. Outside of tutoring, I am an avid reader and writer. I run a resume building workshop at a local non-profit, and write for two blogs. I am currently attempting to learn how to play the guitar, and I dabble in art.

For another eight years, I continued my career in Athletics until I realized my true passion lies in Education.As such, I went back to school and received a Master of Education, with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction from Sam Houston State University.While I am most passionate about teaching US History, I have also taught Government, Economics and Sociology. Ninety-five percent of my students passed the first US History STAAR exam, which was well above the state average.In addition to teaching the content for the exam, I prepare students for Standardized Tests by introducing them to test taking strategies, which includes introducing higher level vocabulary that can be seen on the exam.I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life. I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students by making the material relevant to them. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, walking my dog and watching football, soccer and college basketball.
