If you're the parent of a student looking for assistance with prep for the SSAT, Varsity Tutors can connect you to an Orlando SSAT class that can increase a student's readiness for this exam. The SSAT is a test that many independent or private schools require as a means to assess students applying to their institution. Regardless of the student's grade level, an Orlando SSAT class can help to enhance the knowledge and skills that are necessary to earn a high score on the exam.
An Orlando SSAT prep course can provide students with unique benefits that can't be gained by studying alone. Students will learn alongside one another in an online classroom. The study sessions will be led by an instructor with thorough knowledge of the SSAT. Varsity Tutors will enroll you in an Orlando SSAT course that can give students the extended study time that can make a difference on the exam.
Students applying to private schools will likely have to take an entrance exam like the SSAT as part of the admissions requirements. This requirement extends from children seeking admission to elementary school to students attempting to enroll in certain high schools. Whichever phase of their academic career a student happens to be in, the help offered by an Orlando SSAT course can assist a student in being ready for test day. The SSAT has three different versions depending on the grade level of the student: Upper Level, Middle Level, and Lower Level. Since results on the test will be compared to other students when schools make admissions decisions, it is imperative for students to maximize their potential on the exam.
What will be covered during an Orlando SSAT course?
As noted above, the three versions of the SSAT are administered to students based on their grade level. For all levels, the SSAT tests the student's math, verbal, and reading skills. An Orlando SSAT course can help to enhance a student's abilities in all three areas. To give you a better idea of what the student will be studying and tested on, let's go through each version of the exam, exploring the layout and the types of questions the student can expect to encounter.
The Upper Level SSAT is given to students in 8th-11th grade who are applying to private or independent high schools. The test includes 167 questions to be answered in 2 hours and 50 minutes. One section of the test asks the student to create a writing sample, giving the student the choice between two prompts. This will test a student's basic writing skills and persuasive writing ability. The two Quantitative sections will cover subjects such as algebra and geometry. Both sections have 25 questions that must be finished within 30 minutes each. The Reading section will test reading comprehension by asking students questions about passages in topics ranging from literary fiction to science and social studies. This section has 40 questions that must be completed in 40 minutes. The Verbal section will challenge a student to demonstrate their vocabulary. The questions here will test a student's proficiency with synonyms and analogies. There are 30 synonym questions and 30 analogy questions that must be finished in the allotted time of 30 minutes.
The Middle Level SSAT is given to students in 5th-7th grade who are seeking to enroll in private middle schools. The layout is similar to the Upper Level SSAT, with 167 questions and a time limit of 2 hours 50 minutes. Other than content of the prompts being grade appropriate, the Writing section is identical, with the student being given 25 minutes to respond to one of two prompts. The Quantitative section is also divided into two parts, each with 25 questions and a 30 minute time limit. The student will need to demonstrate knowledge of subjects like elementary algebra and arithmetic. The Reading section and Verbal section have the same breakdown as the Upper Level SSAT.
The Lower Level SSAT is administered to students who are in 3rd or 4th grade and applying to an independent elementary school. The Quantitative section for this version consists of 30 questions to be answered in 30 minutes. The student will need to understand concepts such as basic arithmetic, fractions, and how to interpret graphs. The Verbal section also gives 30 minutes to answer 30 questions that include topics such as synonyms and analogies. The Reading section will ask the student to read 7 passages that are each followed by 4 questions that will test the student's reading comprehension. This version also has a Writing section that asks the student to write a story based on a picture. The student has 15 minutes to complete the story.

...aged, many things in my life have changed. One that has not is my conviction to teach. Over the past twenty years I have taught in a variety of countries, in many different grade levels and subject areas. These teaching opportunities have broadened my knowledge and strengthened my craft. I like to create personalized learning opportunities for my students that will not only be engaging, but also support their learning and build their confidence.... I believe that it is key to challenge students in order for them to grow to their full potential. Tutoring allows for different teaching opportunities because, most often, it is one-to-one. From my educational experiences, I know how valuable teacher encouragement and motivation is for personal motivation. I intend to motivate students while teaching them to be intrinsically motivated through challenging, yet supportive lessons and assignments. I will use a variety of instructional strategies including direct instruction, questioning techniques, and collaborative learning, when possible.

Eleven years of classroom teaching and several years of tutoring has shown me that learning has so much to do with confidence. Let's build your confidence while we build your skills so that tomorrow will become easier than today! ... My plans for the first session would be to complete a "getting to know you activity" with the student and complete assessments with the student. I would also like to see any assessments the school may have done as well as some examples of classwork and homework. These items will help me to gauge where skill deficiencies and strengths may be, and also see what the expectations of the student's teacher are.
