If you are planning on taking the GRE and feel like you could use some extra help, feel free to contact Varsity Tutors so that we can get you started with an Atlanta GRE class. The GRE is used by many universities and colleges as a part of their decision-making process when it comes to admitting students to graduate school. If you are planning on applying to an Atlanta area graduate school, such as the Georgia Institute of Technology or Georgia State University, you may be able to improve your chances of getting accepted by performing well on the GRE.
The GRE contains three sections and is designed to test your skills in reading, writing, and math. While you may be proficient in some of these areas, it is possible that you may have trouble in others. Thus, working with an instructor in an Atlanta GRE course could help with some of the subject areas you may be struggling with while also acting as a refresher for the subject areas you feel more comfortable with.
What can an Atlanta GRE class help me review?
An Atlanta GRE class can help you review material across several different areas, including reading, writing, and math. The GRE is divided into three sections, including Verbal Reasoning, Analytical Writing, and Quantitative Reasoning.
The Verbal Reasoning section consists of 40 questions and you are given 60 minutes to complete it. It is graded between 130 and 170 points and covers questions connected to reading comprehension, text completion, and sentence equivalence. The reading comprehension questions require you to read a passage and demonstrate your ability to comprehend that passage by answering questions related to it. These passages can either be a paragraph long or consist of multiple paragraphs. This section includes around 10 passages and each passage involves anywhere between 1 and 6 questions.
The text completion questions involve reading through short passages and deciding which answer option fits into the blank sections the best. You are provided with anywhere between 3 and 5 answer options. Finally, the sentence equivalence questions involve reading a sentence and choosing the best answer to fit into the blank section of the sentence.
One of the biggest areas students need to review for this section is vocabulary. It is common for this section to include words that students may not be familiar with. As such, working through an Atlanta GRE class can help in terms of becoming more familiar with a variety of less commonplace words that could show up on the exam.
The Verbal Reasoning section is designed to measure several different skills, including your ability to evaluate a passage, your ability to reach a conclusion by analyzing text, being able to summarize a passage, and being able to understand the meaning of sentences and individual words.
The Analytical Writing section includes 2 questions and you will have 30 minutes to complete each question for a total of 60 minutes. One of the questions involves analyzing an argument while the other question involves analyzing an issue. This particular section is designed to examine how well you can write in English, how well you can support your ideas with logic and examples, and how well you can explain complex concepts.
One area in which taking an Atlanta GRE class can help you is by assisting you in coming up with strategies for the Analytical Writing section. This can include making sure you understand the directions, planning out your response, and being able to execute your plan.
Finally, the Quantitative Reasoning section contains 40 questions and you have 70 minutes to complete it. It is also scored between 130 and 170 points, but it covers math-related topics. It specifically covers algebra, arithmetic, geometry, and data analysis. The questions include numeric entry questions, multiple choice questions, and quantitative comparison questions. This section is designed to look at your math skills, your ability to understand math concepts, and your ability to problem solve utilizing quantitative methods.
How can an Atlanta GRE course help me prepare?
There are many different ways in which an Atlanta GRE course can help you prepare. One way an Atlanta GRE course can help you prepare is by reviewing material that may show up on the test. This can include topics such as new vocabulary words you may not be familiar with or math topics you haven't used in a long time.
You can sign up for either a two-week course or a four-week course based on your needs, and new classes start every week. Classes take place completely online, which makes it easier for you to fit study time into your schedule. You don't have to stress about commuting somewhere because you can take a class from the comfort of your own home, or anywhere you have an internet connection.
Atlanta GRE courses take the form of a regular class. They are taught by an instructor and you will learn alongside fellow students. Having an instructor provides a guide to go over the subject material. Working with other students can be beneficial because it allows for discussion-based learning. It also allows you to collaborate with your peers and come up with strategies that could prove useful on the test.
In addition to reviewing subject material, an Atlanta GRE course can also help in terms of working on developing test-taking strategies. One of the most useful strategies involves managing your time effectively. Part of your class time could include going over practice tests to make sure that you understand how much time you have to complete each question. This can be beneficial because you only have a certain amount of time to complete each section.
You can also meet with your instructor on an individual level if needed. If you have a specific question or need further clarification about a topic, you can arrange for one-on-one time outside of class.
