Medical students in the Houston area who are studying to become licensed medical professionals may wish to reach out to Varsity Tutors so that we can help you sign up for Houston USMLE prep. The USMLE covers topics that you've learned throughout your time at medical school. As such, it can be helpful to review the material that is likely to show up in the exam as you begin your Houston USMLE preparation. Whether you are attending medical school at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston or the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston USMLE prep covers a variety of different topics and may be able to get a more comprehensive review than you would by studying on your own.
What concepts will be covered during Houston USMLE prep?
The USMLE, or the United States Medical Licensing Exam, is taken by medical students in the United States who wish to become licensed medical professionals. The USMLE is composed of three different exams, which include Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3. Most students take the Step 1 exam by the end of the second year of medical school. It contains 280 multiple choice questions. Step 2 is divided into two parts, including a Clinical Knowledge section and a Clinical Skills section. Most students take Step 2 by the end of their fourth year of medical school. The Clinical Knowledge section contains 316 multiple choice questions while the Clinical Skills section involves 12 patient scenarios. The Step 2 test is offered at six different testing centers, one of which is actually in the Houston area. Finally, the Step 3 exam is taken after medical school graduation and contains 233 multiple choice questions.
While it is important to go over topics like the musculoskeletal system, the human reproductive system, and the endocrine system, it can also be valuable to work on developing test-taking strategies. You will have a limited amount of time to complete each section. While your academic and testing experience up until this point should have prepared you with general time-management skills, you may not have experience with this particular test. This means that it could be helpful to take practice tests and work with an instructor in Houston USMLE prep to become more familiar with the format.
What are the benefits of the different types of Houston USMLE prep?
There are two different types of Houston USMLE prep that you can sign up for, including a Houston USMLE prep course and private instruction. Each type has its advantages, but most students determine that one particular type fits better with their learning style. However, there are students who decide to sign up for both types to get a more comprehensive review before their exam. No matter which option you choose, you can rest assured that you will receive quality instruction from an instructor who can help you work towards your goals.
Students who prefer a more collaborative approach may want to sign up for a Houston USMLE prep class. This online class gives you a chance to work with both an instructor and other students, just as you would in a traditional classroom. However, our classes take place online, which means that you don't have to worry about commuting to your class. One of the benefits of signing up for a prep class is that you can review information with your instructor and then practice your skills with your classmates. For example, the Clinical Skills section requires you to work with patients. The collaborative nature of a prep class means that you can practice using your interpersonal and communication skills with your fellow students. Additionally, if there's a topic that you seem to be stuck on, you can meet with your instructor after class to receive further clarification.
Students who would rather work in a more personalized environment may want to connect with a Houston USMLE tutor. Studying with a tutor can give you more flexibility over which topics you cover. So if you're having a tough time understanding the renal system, you can focus on getting that topic down while spending less time going over topics you're already familiar with. It can also be valuable to have an instructor who can adapt the way they teach to fit with your specific learning style.
How can I get set up with Houston USMLE preparation?
Whether you decide to sign up for a group class or work with a private instructor, you can feel confident that you will study alongside an instructor who can assist you with both the content and format of the exam. If you are interested in gaining extra assistance as you prepare for the USMLE, feel free to contact Varsity Tutors today.
