What can Houston MCAT prep help me review?
The MCAT is administered over the computer at an MCAT testing center. This standardized, multiple-choice exam is designed with input from the medical school faculty, residents, and students. It focuses on a variety of important skills and concept knowledge that you will need to have in order to succeed in medical school courses. There are four sections on this exam: Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior; Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems; Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems; and Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills. In all, the exam lasts six hours and 15 minutes. You will receive five scores: one for each section from 118-132 and a combined score of 472-528.
The 59 questions on the Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section are divided into passage-based and independent questions. There are 10 passages with 4-6 questions per set. This section assesses your knowledge of biology, psychology, and sociology, as well as your understanding of behavior, culture, social, and psychological factors that impact medicine and health in a variety of ways.
The Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems is set up in a similar way as the above section. Its main focus is biological and biochemical concepts as they relate to cells and organ systems within a living organism. You will need to have an understanding of subjects like organic and general chemistry, basic biochemistry, and introductory biology. In addition, the questions aim to assess your reasoning and scientific inquiry skills.
As above, the 59 questions that are presented in the Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems are split between 10 passage-based sets and 15 independent questions. They serve to measure your grasp of mechanical, biochemical, and physical functions of the human body. You will face questions pertaining to human tissues, organs, and organ systems, as well as basic chemical principles.
Finally, the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills section features 53 questions divided between nine passages. You will need to exhibit strong analytical, verbal reasoning, and reading comprehension skills. The passages are pulled from different sources relating to humanities and social sciences. There are a variety of concepts assessed through this section, such as your ability to apply ideas from the passage to a different context or to infer meaning from a statement or phrase.

...of science, however I also enjoy math and test prep tutoring. Because I care deeply about education, I have the ability to both recognize the struggles and concerns that students have with certain subjects and the ability to push them towards new levels of understanding and confidence. Learning starts by identifying specific misconceptions or weak skills sets that students possess, and as a teacher, these are strengths that I have been able to develop.... Anyone can learn, but not everyone learns the same way. Once you identify how you best learn, success is only a matter of practice and commitment.

I am currently a middle school language arts teacher, although I have also taught a self-contained 6th grade class. I enjoy most the fields of math and science but have also come to appreciate the importance of language arts and literature. I like to think of myself as a balanced tutor.... I believe in the classical model of education, whereby teachers focus on content rather than teaching to the test. Education should create good citizens by teaching students the importance of the past, their place in the present, and their power for influencing the future.
