If your student is in the midst of ISEE prep, Varsity Tutors can enroll them in a Denver ISEE course that offers a more intricate review than they might be able to get on their own. The Independent School Entrance Examination, or ISEE, is a test used in the admissions process for independent educational institutions. Because of this, it is important that your student be as prepared as possible so they can potentially receive the education that you desire for them. If your student is planning on completing the ISEE, they may be wondering where to begin preparing.
A Denver ISEE prep course could be the ideal solution for those looking for outside help as they begin or continue their studies for the ISEE. Should they choose to pursue outside help through Varsity Tutors, your student will take collaborative online classes led by an expert instructor. The ISEE is a big hurdle to clear on the path to independent schools and a Denver ISEE course provides awareness of the content and layout of the tests, making them a great option for those interested in preparing themselves to perform to the best of their abilities.
What can a Denver ISEE course help my student review?
Performing well on the ISEE could ensure that your student gets into the independent school that you would like them to attend so it is important to be as prepared as possible. Your student's preparation should be tailored to the level of the test that they will be taking, as there are four separate versions: Primary, Lower, Middle, and Upper Level. Let's take a closer look at each version of the ISEE.
The Upper Level ISEE is intended to be taken by those entering ninth grade or above and consists of four sections: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and Math Achievement. In the Verbal Reasoning section, students will be given 20 minutes to answer 40 questions designed to assess English skills using both synonym and sentence completion questions. Throughout the Quantitative Reasoning section, students will take up to 35 minutes to complete 37 questions designed to assess quantitative math skills in topics ranging from measurement to problem-solving. Next, test takers will complete the Reading Comprehension portion of the ISEE, which has a time limit of 35 minutes to complete 36 questions on the topics of vocabulary, main and supporting ideas, organization and logic, and author's intent. The Math Achievement section follows, which allows 40 minutes to complete 47 questions that assess math operational skills. Finally, students are given 30 minutes to complete one essay based on a prompt.
The Middle Level ISEE is to be taken by students entering either seventh or eighth grade. This version of the test features the same sections, timing, and number of questions as in the Upper Level ISEE, but with some key differences. For the Verbal Reasoning portion of the test, students should have an understanding of concepts like middle and high-school level vocabulary, parts of speech, and using word clues. Throughout the Quantitative Reasoning section, test takers should expect to be quizzed on topics like algebra, data analysis, geometry, measurement, numbers and operations, and problem-solving. For the Reading Comprehension part of the test, students should know concepts like how to find and use information from passages to answer questions. Additionally, test takers should be prepared for concepts such as integer comparison, properties of operations, and more for the Math Achievement section. Finally, during the Essay portion of the test, students will be provided with a prompt on a topic of interest to students at the high school level.
Next, we have the Lower Level ISEE, which is to be taken by those entering fifth or sixth grade. The sections, timing, and number of questions also remain the same for this version of the test, but there are a few key differences. For the Verbal Reasoning section, students will have to know concepts like using context clues to complete a sentence. In the Quantitative Reasoning portion, students should know concepts including numbers, addition, and subtraction. The Reading Comprehension portion of the Lower Level version covers topics like main and supporting ideas, organization, and vocabulary. In the Math Achievement section, students are expected to understand topics such as whole numbers, algebraic concepts, and geometry. Finally, in the Essay part of the test, test takers will be given a prompt based on a topic of interest to students at the elementary school level.
Lastly, there is the Primary Level of the ISEE, which has three versions: Primary 2, 3, and 4. Primary 2 is for those entering second grade, Primary 3 is for those entering third grade, and Primary 4 is for those entering fourth grade. All levels mentioned include a Reading Section, Math section, and Writing Sample. The main difference is the Level 2 version also consists of an Auditory Comprehension section, in which students have seven minutes to answer six questions based on audible passages.

...camp one summer with students of all ages. I travel whenever I get a chance and have traveled in Europe and all over the United States. I love science and teaching test prep. I am very passionate about students not only understanding the material but knowing how they can use the material in real life situations. I believe that it helps students remember the material when they know how to apply it.... My teaching philosophy is inquiry-based. I like for the students to find and understand the answer themselves rather than me giving the answer.
