I discovered a love of learning from an early age, deeply enjoying English, languages, and music especially. In college I majored in Linguistics and further discovered that I love the way languages work in general, and that teaching others to acquire skill in both their native and second languages, especially in pronunciation, is a fascinating and satisfying process. Through tutoring and assisting professors while at Luther College as well as giving violin lessons, providing childcare for younger to older children, and becoming a mother, I've found an abiding love for teaching one-on-one and helping people. I particularly appreciate the importance of gaining native-like pronunciation within the frame of language-learning, improving English reading and writing skills, and helping violinists to gain excellent form and tone from the beginning. My desire is to help people discover the way they best learn- visually, by doing, by listening, etc - and finding the most accessible way of explaining a concept for them individually. When approached from a familiar and personally appealing angle, learning can be much easier and more enjoyable!

My goal is to connect with students to help making learning enjoyable. Through a variety of teaching methods I help students gain a full understanding of material instead of simply memorizing facts for an exam.

I graduated from Luther College in the spring of 2019. I majored in Sociology with a double minor in Spanish and Social Work. I believe that every student has different learning strategies and strengths. I focus on identifying the students strengths and interests and incorporating them to make their learning interactive and enjoyable. I spent this past year working in an alternative high school, providing academic tutoring and emotional support to students. I am well versed in high school curriculum, including Pre-Algebra, Biology, US History, and Spanish. I currently provide additional support to students during this time of distance learning, including students in grades K-8. In my free time, I enjoy taking bike rides, cooking up new foods, and hammocking with friends.

I am a graduate of Luther College where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Music with a focus on vocal performance as well as a minor in Spanish. After graduating from undergrad, I spent ten months in La Plata, Argentina serving in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America's Young Adults in Global Mission program. My placement in Argentina gave me the opportunity to combine my passions for music, education, foreign language, and culture. After returning to the United States, I pursued my Teaching English as a Foreign Language certification through International TEFL Academy, and I will receive my official certificate once I complete six more practicum hours. I also became a licensed short-term substitute teacher through the Wisconsin Department of Education, and February through May of 2020, I had my first teaching assignment as a K4-8 general music long-term substitute teacher at a local Catholic school. In the Fall of 2020, I will begin pursuing my Masters of Education in Global Perspectives at Boston College. I mostly tutor Spanish and Music, which reflects my extensive experience with these two subjects as a student, teacher, professional, and person. In my experience, I most enjoy tutoring Spanish because I love to see the pride and joy in my students when they truly connect with another language, especially when they master something with which they had previously been struggling. As an educator, it is always important to me to understand a student's unique goals, strengths, and challenges, and I look forward to providing an individualized plan for each of my students. In my free time, I enjoy singing, playing with my two dogs, and dreaming up new travel itineraries.

My 30+ years of teaching secondary mathematics has taught me each student is an individual who has unique issues with learning math. I firmly believe that if I listen well, I can find out what issues have to be addressed to help each student learn math well. The goals of each student is also unique and I will do everything to help each student reach their goals and not try to have every student learn the same way.

I am a graduate of Luther College, a liberal arts school in Decorah, IA. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Religion, with a minor in Social Welfare. Throughout college, I tutored many students in high school and college level math. I loved the process of helping people through math problems, so after graduating I served in the MN Math Corps as a Math Enrichment Tutor, where I learned research based teaching methods to tutor middle school students who were below proficiency in math. Currently, I am certified to tutor a broad range of math subjects ranging from elementary math to pre-calculus, as well as ACT Math and GRE Math/Verbal test prep. Through my experience, I've found that the best method of tutoring is to tailor it to each student's learning style (every concept can be taught/understood in multiple ways), and make sure the student actually understands what he/she is doing versus just learning equations and methods to complete assignments. I am very passionate about tutoring math as I love empowering people, and I believe mathematics is a vital subject to learn and understand. In addition to tutoring, I have worked as a data analyst for a market research firm near Chicago. In my free time, I enjoy keeping up on current events, reading (I love Harry Potter and Hunger Games!), Ultimate Frisbee, playing guitar and piano, and learning economics.

I have been a registered neuroscience nurse for just over a year and I took my NCLEX in July of 2020. I still remember the anxiety of studying for the test and others like it throughout school, and how overwhelming it was to try and figure out where to begin. I want to help ease the burden of anxiety of such tests for others.I graduated from Luther College with a degree in Nursing. Outside my current job, I spent a fair amount time in clinical rotations at Mayo Clinic. I'm also currently working toward my stroke certification. I'm quietly passionate about psychology, and obviously the field of nursing. My main goal in tutoring is to help others progress their careers in the medical field.
