Do you have a passion for helping others and want assistance with an approaching test? We at Varsity Tutors can help you with our CPCE prep courses. The CPCE (Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Exam) is a test that measures your skill in counseling-related concepts. It's made for pupils who completed graduate-level counseling courses. Email or call an educational consultant to learn more about how a CPCE prep class can assist you.
The CPCE is used to examine a counseling curriculum strengths and look for ways to ameliorate them. Its questions cover components associated with the Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The test assists pupils with preparing for the National Counselor Examination for Licensure and Certification, or NCE. With a license, students can work for a company or operate their own private practice. It has several multiple-choice questions, along with two essay questions. Here are the CPCE questions and topics:
Topic | # Questions |
Human Growth and Development | 20 |
Helping Relations | 20 |
Social and Cultural Foundations | 20 |
Group Work | 20 |
Career and Lifestyle Development | 20 |
Appraisal, Research and Program Evaluation | 20 |
Professional Orientation and Ethics. | 20 |
Total | 160 |
In our CPCE prep classes, you can spend as much time as you need on any of the above topics. These CPCE prep course instructors can conduct lessons at a slow or fast pace. Are you a bit shy when it comes to asking questions? What's wonderful about CPCE classes is that they grant you one-on-one attention with an understanding tutor, so you don't need to worry about asking questions in front of a large crowd. You can even request a tutor to cater to your personal learning style. In a CPCE course, a tutor can drill you with flashcards, give you a lecture, or suggest you build a creative project to help you try to understand something better. As you can see, CPCE courses give you opportunities to customize your study lessons.
The CPCE covers eight major areas like the NCE does. Below are the topics and their descriptions:
- Human growth and development
- studies that provide an understanding of the nature and needs of individuals at all developmental levels.
- Social and cultural foundations
- studies that provide an understanding of issues and trends in a multicultural and diverse society.
- Helping relationships
- studies that provide an understanding of counseling and consultation processes.
- Group work
- studies that provide an understanding of group development, dynamics, counseling theories, group counseling methods and skills, and other group work approaches.
- Career and lifestyle development
- studies that provide an understanding of career development and related life factors.
- Appraisal
- studies that provide an understanding of individual and group approaches to assessment and evaluation.
- Research and program evaluation
- studies that provide an understanding of types of research methods, basic statistics, and ethical and legal considerations in research.
- Professional orientation and ethics
- studies that provide an understanding of all aspects of professional functioning including history, roles, organizational structures, ethics, standards, and credentialing.
If you need to review one or more of the topics above, a CPCE class tutor can help you study in a myriad of ways. One way you can study is by making a list of the topics and descriptions, then giving it to your tutor so that they can quiz you on them. Another way you can prepare for the exam is by asking a tutor for practice test, so you can get familiar with its timing and structure. A tutor can even give you relaxation tips try out if you feel a little scared about the test.
Like most students, you may have other obligations in your life, such as work and family. That's why each CPCE course is designed to fit into your schedule, making it simpler for you to study and still have time to focus on your other responsibilities. We also offer a Live Learning Platform, which enables you to speak face-to-face with a tutor via your favorite mobile device.
