I have a Masters of Education (M.Ed.) with five specialized Master areas, these include, English, Social Sciences, Science, Mathematics and Special Education (all spectrum's and special needs areas). As well, I have a B.A. in Communication, a Minor in Psychology and Minor in Sociology. All of which I earned from George Mason University.
In my over 13 years as an educator I have taught and tutored in each core content area and grade level, tutoring both in-person and utilizing on-line platforms and programs. I have piloted programs implementing technology, and those designed to apply my expertise in differentiated instruction strategies for students of all learning styles and abilities. I pride myself, on my extensive background and passion for teaching; knowing, that every student can succeed.
My tutoring expertise includes but is not limited to: English, Social Sciences, Math and Science, SOL test preparation, homework and additional practice, skill development to reach grade level content, organizational skills, IEP and 504 based supports, advanced placement studies, GED practice and preparation, SAT and TJ preparation, home-bound/home-based instruction, transition support from home-based instruction, and college/armed forces admission preparation.
I believe it is imperative to begin tutoring by learning a students likes and dislikes, not just in school content, but elsewhere; this builds the foundation for understanding ways to integrate their life into lessons. Building a strong context with regard to the ways in which the student as an individual learns best not by simply asking the direct question; but, giving examples and asking if they lead to comprehension or frustration furthers my ability to lead them to success. I feel it is incredibly important to establish a base with the student to be recognized as a person, not just someone to tutor, as it is essential in forward progress of the differentiated ways to work one-on-one.
I have a passion for playing soccer, ice skating, scuba diving, listening to music, adopting animals, and I am a huge college football fanatic. I love traveling to places that are not considered the normal places to visit; but, those that have yet to become tourist attractions. I always love to constantly learn, not just from a textbook, but through life experiences.
I proudly embrace my personality that I was not always confident in. I believe my sense of humor, at times out of the box thinking, patience, empathy and ability to connect with people and motivate them, as I recognize them as unique individuals is what further drives my passion to teach and mentor. This has allowed me to develop amazing skills to understand, educate and show students their potential.
