Chemistry Tutoring review by Aleksey in Dallas Fort Worth, TX
The student and I reviewed concepts of acidic and basic substances, and acid-base reactions in preparation for his test on Thursday. We discussed the Bronsted definition of an acid base and how we distinguish an acid from a base by tracking the hydrogen atom through the reaction - acids split up to create positive hydrogen ions, while bases split up to create hydroxide ions. We practiced determining the pH/pOH of a solution or an acid-base pair mixture as well as calculating acid/base concentrations and volumes using data from titration experiments.
