What does an Austin GMAT prep cover?
The GMAT is made up of different questions that will test your overall skills. The test consists of four sections: Analytical Writing, Quantitative, Verbal, and Integrated Reasoning. You can select the order in which to take the different sections. The total time allowed for the four sections is three hours, seven minutes. Let's take a closer look at the GMAT so you'll get an idea of what things you need to study before the big day.
The Analytical Writing Assessment is a 30-minute writing test. It will test your ability to analyze arguments and express your thoughts in writing. Two ratings will be given for your essay, which will then be averaged to decide your final score. One rating is given by an individual from the Graduate Management Admission Council, and another is given by a computer. In case the two ratings vary by more than one point, an expert will reevaluate your essay and give the final score.
The Quantitative Reasoning section tests mathematical skills, but also challenges test takers to think conceptually rather than just perform complex computations. It is in multiple-choice format. You have 62 minutes to finish this section. The two types of questions are problem solving and data sufficiency. The former requires the test taker to use logic and analysis to solve problems. You have to pick from one of five choices. The latter, meanwhile, requires identification of relevant data to answer the problem. You will have to use your math and reasoning skills to determine when there is enough data to answer the question.
The Verbal Reasoning section has a duration of 65 minutes. Also in a multiple-choice format, the questions involve sentence correction, reading comprehension, and critical reasoning. Each question has five options. Sentence correction tests grammar and communication skills. You should choose the option that correctly expresses the intent of the sentence. Next, reading comprehension will test your ability to analyze information and make a conclusion. Passages can be one to several paragraphs long. In critical reasoning, you will evaluate arguments and form an action plan.
And finally, the Integrated Reasoning section will measure your ability to analyze data presented in different formats. In this section of the GMAT, you'll be given 30 minutes to answer 12 questions. The different types of questions are graphics interpretation, multi-source reasoning, table analysis, and two-part analysis. This section will test how well you can solve complicated problems. Doing well on this part of the test indicates that you can make right decisions based on the information you are given.
What are the benefits of Austin GMAT prep?
A thorough understanding of the GMAT is essential for performing well on the exam. You must answer each question carefully, while also proceeding at a reasonable rate to finish each section on time. ...of 3.4-3.5, and scored in the 90-95th percentiles on my SAT, GMAT, and CPA. Whether I'm teaching undergraduate accounting classes, training staff accountants, or explaining concepts to fellow students during study sessions, I greatly enjoy articulating concepts and puzzling out the best way to engage learners and convey information in an accessible way. I love seeing the lightbulb moments when information clicks. I look forward to exploring teaching in a new way through tutoring.... My teaching philosophy is that every student learns best differently, and teaching is a two-way relationship. I convey information while asking questions and am constantly adjusting my teaching and communications styles to suit the current student and situation.

Jim: Austin GMAT test prep instructor
I am a great tutor because when I am finished tutoring a student, they not only get their work done, they understand the concept they were having trouble with. I tutored at Austin Community College for two years, I taught Secondary Mathematics for three years, and I taught at a career school for over 3 years, where I taught College Algebra, among other general education courses. ... Before getting started, I tend to get comfortable and relax, with the hope that the student will as well. I believe that the student must be involved in their own learning. I do not do the work for the student. My goal is to give the student the tools to help themselves. When a student tells me "I don't get it," I use probing questions to get them to narrow it down to exactly what it is that they don't get. I encourage them to apply themselves. I also do plenty of examples, doing whatever I can to relate the work to the real world, and specifically, their real world. I try to gain a rapport with the student, then relate the course material to the student's life.

I assume responsibility that my student is learning and that my student is learning at higher and higher levels, in accordance with Bloom's Taxonomy. Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Evaluation, Synthesis, Analysis are higher levels of learning that give the student tools to apply lessons into maturity. I have been very successful in tutoring ACT, SAT, ISEE, and GRE.... The Socratic method, asking open-ended questions, is an excellent strategy to get a student to talk. When the tutor can speak less and encourage the tutee to speak more, the tutor can identify the student's level of understanding.

For over a decade I have taught college students in a variety of subjects including writing and rhetoric, reading comprehension, public speaking, interpersonal and gender communication, as well as both academic and business and professional writing. My pedagogy is rooted in the active learning model where students are encouraged to engage the material through practical activities, as well as through discussion. It's important to me...... I am a believer in the active learning model of education. Students can memorize as much as they wish, but learning requires that teachers find some way of allowing the student to apply what they have learned. In some subjects this is easier to achieve than in others, but in any interaction with a student, I try to make sure that the learning is as engaging and active as possible.
