Session Summaries by Algebra Tutors

Algebra Tutoring review by Michael in Douglas County, NE
Student A - I went over every problem in the student's most recent quiz, making sure she knew what she did wrong. I then proceeded to help her with her homework, which required her to solve more problems on simplifying and combining equations. Student B - It appears the student may be having some issues with his teacher in understanding her expectations in class and with the coursework. I spent some time explaining to him some techniques to building a better understanding of what the teacher does or says in class and vice versa. I am hoping that this will help him build a better and more efficient line of communication with the teacher. His homework was based on using mostly logic and some math to provide proofs. I stressed the importance of being as detailed as possible when providing explanations in his coursework.

The missing chemistry HW was completed and uploaded. We also did a lot of review for his Chem quiz retake today. I think he will do much better this time. We spent a little time practicing taking notes from his government book. On Monday, we are going to spend some time working on how to read and use the textbook properly.

Algebra Tutoring review by Art in Douglas County, NE
The student and I are steadily moving through the end of his online Algebra course. Due to his busy schedule and other school work, he was not able to take the quiz that we prepared for last time. As a result, we spent more time practicing factoring, adding, and subtracting rational fractions with like and unlike denominators, and general problem solving skills. The student is now very prepared and comfortable with these concepts, and I believe that he should be successful on his quiz.

Algebra Tutoring review by Neil in Douglas County, NE
The student and I began this session by quickly reviewing the rules for multiplying monomials. We then reviewed using the distributive property to multiply a monomial and a polynomial. She was very comfortable with these operations, so we then moved on to multiplying binomials, using the FOIL method. This was new to her, so we spent quite a bit of time practicing on a variety of sample problems. She grasped the concept quickly; the only part she had some difficulty with is keeping track of signs (+/-). We'll continue to practice this operation in future sessions.
