I've always been passionate about helping students because making a difference in their lives and meeting their needs is something that has been very important to me. I recieved my Bachelors Degree in Educational Studies with a minor in History from Denison University. From there, I had some Early Childhood Studies at Mercer University. I finally recieved my Master's of Science Degree in Early Childhood Leadership and Advocacy from the University of Dayton. I began my education career tutoring elementary math and reading at a Kumon center. From there, I became a Pre-K lead teacher. After that experience, I had some experiences with the special needs community at church, in therapeutic rec, at a behavior intervention center and in a school setting working with students who had Autism and Downs Syndrome. Over the past year, I had a career change/transition and now work for the YREADS afterschool program through the Y in Southwest Florida. In this program, I help struggling readers become better readers and develop a lifelong passion for reading during the school year. Also, over the summer, I helped general education students with their behavior problems at the Boys and Girls Club. As a tutor, I'm open to helping out with a variety of subjects from homework/study help, reading/phonics help, Elementary School subjects to helping out special needs students. My favorite subject to tutor is reading because I enjoy inspiring kids to read and find themselves through reading fiction and non-fiction books. My tutoring style is to make learning fun and enjoyable through using joy, excitement, praise and fun learning materials. When teaching, I enjoy getting to know and connecting with my students relationally on a deep level. I also like to incorporate the student's interests and learning styles into my teaching/tutoring practice so they feel included, valued and cared for. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, volunteering in my community, exercising at home and in nature, attending social and live music events, reading, doing creative activities and meditating.
