My approach to learning is to help students become life long learners by making real life application. I have taught in urban and rural environments as a kindergarten through 3rd grade classroom teacher, with older students in afterschool programs and with young adults in learning centers and correctional facilities. I value each of my students and see success in all of them. I am certified in Early Childhood and Elementary Education with proven success in shifting students from dependent to independent learners. I am also certified in Special Education and understand learning differences. I naturally feel endeared towards students with special education needs because I can personally relate to the challenges. I can spot learning difficulties, be it ADHD, executive functioning skills, phonemic awareness issues or writing issues.
I grew up and went to school in the New York City area but now live in a town with less than 2,000 people in rural Midwest, USA. I feed my 4 chickens each morning, drive at least 2 hours to the next big town once a month and, enjoy spending time with my family everyday.
I earned a Bachelors degree in Corporate Communication from Baruch College in New York and a Masters degree in TESOL from McDaniel College in Maryland. I love traveling and have visited Estonia, Russia, London, South Korea, Nigeria, Latvia and a few other places. I also studied abroad in France. With each travel experience my respect for people and their culture simply deepens.
I really enjoy teaching English grammar and reading comprehension. I also sponsored an enrichment and remedial Afterschool Math club as a grade level team leader. In my junior year in High School I was awarded a summer internship in the electrical engineering department at Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York. My appreciation for math and science is still with me.
Since 2018 I have been an online teacher and during this time I have gained skills to engage online learners. I look forward to working with you as your Tutor.
